Florida Woman Accuses Employee of Discrimination for Asking Autistic Niece to Stop Touching Products: ‘Stop Her From Doing Disruptive Stuff’

It’s a normal request

A woman in Florida accused an employee of discrimination after the worker asked her to stop her autistic niece from touching products inside the store.

The woman and her autistic niece were inside a beauty store when the girl began touching some of the displayed products. The employee appeared to ask the woman to hold her niece’s hand to prevent her from continuing to touch the items. Instead, the woman accused the employee and the store of discrimination. “She discriminated against my autistic niece stimming,” she wrote over the video.

Apparently ‘autism’ is a blanket excuse to let your kid run wild🙄

The video began with the woman explaining her niece’s condition and threatening to sue the store, claiming that the employee’s request amounted to discrimination. The employee responded that she had not said anything about the girl’s autism and was asking the woman to keep an eye on her. In response, the woman argued that her niece did not have the “mental capacity like other children.”

The employee then insisted that the request was not discriminatory and explained that she was simply asking the woman to keep her niece by her side. Because the recording begins after the disagreement had already started, it is unclear what the child had been doing immediately before the employee made the request. The woman, however, maintained that her niece was already by her side.

As the video continued, the woman repeatedly insisted that the employee was discriminating against her autistic niece. The employee tried to explain her perspective, but the woman continued arguing that her niece had a disability. The employee then calmly clarified that she was asking the woman to hold the little girl’s hands.

“I’m still gonna buy products and I’m gonna sue you,” the woman said. She then headed to the cashier to pay for her purchases while continuing to threaten legal action. She also called her niece’s mother and told her that she should sue the store, claiming that the employee had discriminated against her daughter. “She’s really just stimming. Being herself. That’s [expletive] disgusting,” the woman said as the video ended. It is unclear what happened afterward or how the store responded to the allegations.

Viewers Criticize Florida Woman After Discrimination Allegations

The post sparked reactions online. Many viewers criticized the Florida woman after she accused the employee of discrimination. Some argued that she should have intervened and stopped her autistic niece from touching the store’s products. “She doesn’t have the mental capacity like other children. Hey, so, that’s what you’re there for. Stop her from doing disruptive stuff that she doesn’t know not to do,” one person wrote. Another commenter said, “Stop talking about that. Poor kid isn’t so far in the spectrum that she doesn’t know that they’re calling her different shouting it through the store how embarrassing. Poor kid.”

More viewers continued criticizing the woman over how she handled the situation. “This is getting so old and tiring,” one person wrote. Another commenter said, “This woman is actually exploiting a disability she knows little about and repeating it over & over shows her own zero ‘Mental capacity’.” Someone else added, “Having an autistic child doesn’t mean you can let your kid do whatever they want. I’ve worked with autistic kids for 5 years now and this is ridiculous.”

The video sparked a broader conversation about whether autism should affect how stores and caregivers respond when children touch products without permission. It also led to discussion about how adults responsible for autistic children can help guide them in public settings, including teaching them when it is appropriate to touch or interact with items in stores while also taking their individual needs into consideration.
