Connecticut Gov. Ned Lamont signed a bill into law on Monday 4th, May 2026, that restricts Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents from wearing masks that conceal their identity during operations and prohibits warrantless immigration arrests in certain protected areas, such as schools, hospitals, churches, and courthouses.

The legislation, which also allows residents to sue federal agents in state court for alleged rights violations, quickly drew attention online after a post highlighted the new limits on ICE activity in the state. Many reactions questioned the bill’s enforceability against federal operations.

The post shared by @greg_price11 on X includes video from the bill-signing ceremony. In the footage, Connecticut Gov. Ned Lamont is seated at an outdoor table, signing documents as officials and onlookers stand nearby while others hold folders and observe. There is a crowd with a few people taking videos in the ceremony.

According to the post, the new law stops ICE agents from wearing masks or anything that hides their faces while on duty. It also blocks them from entering places like schools, hospitals, and churches without a warrant, and lets people sue federal agents in state court. These details haven’t been fully confirmed outside the post and the bill-signing footage.

Online Reactions to the Connecticut Bill Signing

Some commenters questioned the bill’s practical impact, with one writing, “He doesn’t have any authority over the feds. I don’t know why they keep doing this.”

Another stated, “All ceremonial. It’s called the supremacy clause… just asked California.”

Others expressed stronger criticism, including “Lamont, you are a Coward!” and arguments citing constitutional provisions, with one noting, “Democrat leaders are quite happy to work against the best interests of the USA… Democrats are truly the enemy within.”

Several highlighted federal authorities, such as “Article IV, Section 4 of our Constitution REQUIRES our government to protect and defend our borders.” At the same time, one hoped the law would apply evenly: “I hope that includes automatic arrest for protestors wearing face coverings hassling ICE agents.”

The bill signing has stirred up the bigger debate over how much power states have versus the feds on immigration. Reactions are still pouring in on X, and it’s become another hot topic in the fight over sanctuary rules and border security.
