When it comes to political campaigns, we all know that candidates tend to put their names out there in hopes of getting views, endorsements, and most importantly, support from voters. However, among these campaigns, there are sometimes moments when unexpected things happen that seem unlikely and a bit fun at times. In this case, we’re talking about an unintended billboard war that erupted in Los Angeles, California, where two billboards were placed across from each other. One for Kenneth Mejia and one for Traci Park. While the whole idea of having two billboards for campaigns across from each other is fun for some, this situation quickly turned into a debate over which candidate deserves support.
User citeechow3095 shared both pictures on the Los Angeles Subreddit, claiming that they saw these billboards across from one another between Olympic and Santa Monica.
As you can see, one billboard is for Kenneth Mejia, currently running for City Controller, and the other for Traci Park, looking for a re-election in the City Council. This unexpected and hilarious situation for some quickly turned into a debate; however, as many pointed out, a few things about the billboards and their candidates.
For starters, some people said that Mejia had the upper hand with his billboard with facts about the City’s budget, which shows that LA allegedly spends around $3.3 billion on its police, but only $391 million on street services. However, some pointed out that Mejia left some other information aside about the City’s budget.
On the other hand, people focused on one eyebrow-raising detail: Park’s billboard mentions that the company paid for it, which made the company look sketchy in the eyes of many.
California Residents Take a Side on the Billboard War
In the end, people ended up taking sides on this billboard war, with many supporting one candidate over the other.
“The man is using a corgi and facts for marketing. Does anyone else stand a chance?“
“I’m praying Traci Park loses. We need to get her off the city council.“
Since many thought the company’s decision to pay for a billboard was sketchy, they quickly pointed this out in the comments and said this action wouldn’t help Park’s campaign.
“A corporation paying for your ad should be a red flag.“
“The fact that the Park billboard is paid for by the billboard company is insane.“
While unintended, this billboard war seems to have made people side with one candidate over the other. Still, the voting hasn’t happened yet, and that’s when people will decide who comes out on top in whatever position they are running for.
