Traumatized Parent Claims Tesla Driver Pulled Gun on Michigan Highway While Child Was in Vehicle: ‘It Was Terrifying’

This isn’t a good look for the stereotype…

A parent driving down 75 and 696 in Michigan had a frightening encounter with a Tesla driver allegedly waving their gun as a threat. Under the username Competitive_Gold_493, the parent posted a video of the confrontation on r/dashcams, recalling that they didn’t know what the Tesla owner was so angry about. “My kid was in the car. It was terrifying,” they wrote, clearly traumatized by the event.

Competitive_Gold_493 says they’ve reported the incident to the police, though they haven’t updated on whether the authorities have taken any action regarding the Tesla driver. Thousands of Redditors tuned in to this parent’s alarming story, but many agreed that they didn’t think the driver had a weapon.

Multiple times, the parent reaffirmed in the comment section that they were certain they saw the man in the vehicle ahead waving a firearm. “For those saying it’s not a gun, I agree the video doesn’t show it clearly, but it was a gun. When he pointed it at me near the end of the video when the white SUV pulled up, I saw the tip, and I don’t think I’ve ever been so frightened in my life,” they wrote with confidence.

Fortunately, there were plenty of users who took the parent’s side, agreeing that anyone waving a deadly weapon over road rage isn’t of a sound mind. “I do not care what you may or may not have done. Waving a gun around takes this to a totally different level,” remarked a commenter. “Not seeing a gun, but I do see an idiot that shouldnt be driving,” added another user.

The Michigan Parent Claims They Didn’t Initially Call 911, Resulting in a Host of Complications

As to why the Michigan parent struggled to have police intervene in this possibly life-threatening situation, they said they called the non-emergency police line after they got home, not when the incident happened. After dealing with automated responses and an allegedly rude dispatcher, they seem at their wits’ end about what to do.

If the parent really wants to make this a big deal for justice’s sake, they’ll have to go beyond a Reddit post. As a commenter points out, “Call the police again and again,” with another suggesting posting the video on X, tagging the local police department. “If they don’t answer, go to your local news station. That often gets the attention,” chimed in a third.

While Competitive_Gold_493 has yet to share their video anywhere besides r/dashcams, Tesla drivers already have a somewhat poor reputation in several online communities, many of whom see the owners as pretentious. Whether that’s true is naturally subjective, of course, though this particular driver on the Michigan interstate isn’t helping clear the negative stereotype.
