A woman went viral after California police allegedly ordered her car to be towed during a traffic stop over a registration issue. Officers reportedly told her that the vehicle showed no registration record in Illinois and that its registration had expired in California. The incident caused debate over whether the officers had properly checked the vehicle’s out-of-state records.

The video was shared on TikTok by Angelina, who goes by @angelina_dimova. It received several million views, with many viewers questioning the officers’ explanation and the decision to tow the vehicle.

In the video, the woman explains that she had purchased the car in Illinois about two months earlier. During the stop, police reportedly told her that they could not find any record of the vehicle ever being registered in Illinois. The woman asked whether she could have five minutes to make a phone call and try to resolve the issue, but she was told that a tow truck was already on the way.

The woman protested the decision and explained that she had plans to take the car to Monterey Car Week. However, the officers did not change their decision. She eventually had to get out of the vehicle and hand over the keys to police. She also received a speeding ticket during the stop.

Internet Reacts to California Police Towing Car

A major point of confusion for viewers was how the officers could say the vehicle’s registration was expired while also claiming there was no record of it in Illinois. Several commenters pointed out that an out-of-state vehicle may not immediately appear in another state’s database and questioned whether the officers had access to the information they needed.

Others argued that the woman could have avoided the situation by showing her registration documents. Some viewers also said that if the registration really was expired or the vehicle could not be verified, police may have had a valid reason to take action.

Still, much of the reaction was critical of the police. Many viewers questioned why the vehicle needed to be towed instead of giving the woman time to contact someone or verify her paperwork. Some also felt the officers were unnecessarily aggressive during the encounter. “Anything but go after actual criminals,” one user wrote.

The incident also led to broader criticism of California law enforcement, with commenters arguing that police should focus on more serious crimes instead of vehicle violations. Others shared stories about their own cars being towed and said the situation reminded them of similar experiences.

Not everyone agreed with the criticism, however. Some viewers said the officers were simply enforcing registration laws and that the woman’s frustration did not necessarily mean the police had done anything wrong. Others questioned why she did not immediately provide proof of registration if she had it available.

With millions of views, the video turned what began as a traffic stop into a much bigger argument online over out-of-state registration, police discretion, and whether a tow was really necessary. At least the car made it to Monterey Car Week in her plans. It just apparently wasn’t invited by the California police.
