Donald Trump is facing backlash online after comments he made while answering questions in Washington DC about Americans’ financial situation.

Before departing for his upcoming trip to China, Donald Trump stopped to answer questions from reporters. Trump is scheduled to meet with Xi Jinping during a multiday state visit that is expected to focus on several major topics, including U.S.-China trade tensions and tariffs, artificial intelligence competition, Chinese purchases of Iranian oil, and other geopolitical and economic issues.

A viral clip showed Trump giving a controversial response to a reporter’s question about Americans’ financial struggles during negotiations with Iran. A reporter asked Trump, “When you’re negotiating with Iran, to what extent are Americans’ financial situation motivating you to make a deal?” Trump responded, “Not even a little bit.” He then added that his focus during the negotiations was preventing Iran from obtaining a nuclear weapon.

“Not even a little bit. The only thing that matters when I’m talking about Iran, they can’t have a nuclear weapon. I don’t think about Americans’ financial situation and I don’t think about anybody. I think about one thing: we can’t let Iran have a nuclear weapon. That’s all,” he said.

Trump’s answer sparked significant backlash online, especially as many Americans continue to express concerns about inflation and the rising cost of living. Critics pointed to increasing gas prices and broader economic pressure linked to the ongoing conflict with Iran and instability in global oil markets.

Many viewers argued that Americans’ financial struggles should play a role in foreign policy decisions, particularly as fuel and consumer prices continue to rise. Recent reports and polling have shown that many households feel strained by higher gas prices and inflation, with some Americans blaming the administration’s handling of the Iran conflict for worsening economic conditions.

Viewers Outraged Following Trump’s Answer in Washington DC

The video sparked reactions online. Many viewers reacted angrily to Trump’s remarks outside the White House in Washington DC arguing that the president should be more concerned about Americans’ financial struggles. One commenter wrote, “Totally unacceptable. He doesn’t give a [expletive] about us. He only cares about Israel, because they bribed him, and very likely have blackmail on him. We need to have an American president! Someone who cares about Americans, instead of just super wealthy supporters of Israel.”

More viewers criticized Trump following his comments. One person wrote, “Guy who filed for bankruptcy six times just told you he doesn’t think about your financial situation. Believe him.” Another commenter said, “At some point you misguided MAGA cultists are gonna have to realize that Trump and the GOP don’t care about you even a little bit. They think you’re stupid. It’s time to wake up.” Someone else added, “Of course he doesn’t think about the American people, he only worries about himself and his elites!”

Trump’s response sparked significant backlash online, with many viewers arguing that the remarks were insensitive to the financial struggles many Americans are currently facing. Critics felt that the answer was not the kind of response they expected from the president of the United States.
