After putting in her 300th job application for another position since her layoff last October, one woman in Washington has felt she’s had enough and needs to vent. Once allegedly a Senior Program Manager at Amazon, Pyeppers has posted on r/mildlyinfuriating, sharing how the job market for her is beyond rough and “downright depressing.” Even though she has had 16 years of experience at Amazon, she expresses that it’s become such a struggle to find work.
When Pyeppers first began at Amazon, she started from the very bottom as a customer service associate back in 2010 and worked hard to reach a managerial position. Unfortunately, when she was laid off, she claims she also lost her network, which was colleagues at Amazon who were either laid off or not in contact with her anymore, making it even harder to find work by word of mouth. Thousands of Redditors sympathized with her pain by either commenting or upvoting encouraging comments.
The Former Amazon Manager’s Post Was Met with Overwhelming Support
“300 apps since october is genuinely brutal. hope number 301 is the one that ends the streak,” remarked a commenter. Another person suggested that Pyeppers hire a professional to write up a resume in her stead, as they claimed it worked to help them land the job they wanted. Another user blamed AI as the cause for so many rejections: “I applied to maybe 20 jobs in my area and they were rejected in under a minute. One of my friends later explained that some companies use AI to auto-reject resumes that don’t have a specific keyword.”
Since she was a program manager at Amazon, Pyeppers says around 80% of the jobs she’s applying for are similar roles, though 20% are shots into the dark to see whether she might get lucky for a random position. OP also shared how she’s applied for jobs she’s deemed “overqualified” for, such as a public library worker or a community employee, but to no avail.
Even though Pyeppers allegedly updates her resume to fit each job posting, there’s still no luck in sight at an offer. Still, the former Amazon Senior Program Manager is not giving up, fueled by the support of hundreds in her Reddit post. She concluded, writing, “Thank you to everyone who has sent kind and encouraging words!! It’s hard to keep your head up sometimes, but I’m going to keep at it until I find something!”
