One woman had the most baffling experience when she was accused of stealing the shoes she showed up in. A customer was browsing shoes at the Mall of Louisiana when an employee mistook her shoes. She accused her of wearing different shoes than she had shown up in. From there, the cops were called, and a confrontation followed.
Told through two videos, TikToker Tylisha (@heenvytya_) shows what happened to her when she visited a DSW shoe store in Louisiana. She says that, while she was shopping, an employee approached her. They asked her if she “wanted a box for those” but she wasn’t holding any shoes. She quickly discovered that the employee was referring to the Puma shoes Tylisha was already wearing when she entered the store.
Tylisha explained to the employee that she had worn those shoes when she entered the store. She noticed the employees were talking about her and making calls. She knew the police were going to arrive. When she exited the store and entered an Ulta Beauty nearby, she said a police officer entered the store “looking around the entrance” for Tylisha. They made their way back to the DSW store, where Tylisha’s confrontational video picks up.
In the video, the employee tells the officer that Tylisha was wearing different shoes when she entered the store. She accuses her of stealing the Pumas. Tylisha exclaims, “I did not come in with sandals; I came in with these on.” Tylisha tells the officer and employee that she bought the Pumas from Nordstrom in Minnesota.
In the end, Tylisha states that she was able to leave but she felt incredibly “humiliated” by the experience. She has since filed complaints with DSW and the Mall of Louisiana. However, the only thing they offered her in response was a $200 gift card for her troubles. She said this isn’t enough for being “falsely accused of theft and publicly humiliated.”
Tylisha’s video quickly sparked hundreds of reactions online, with commenters sharing their opinions on what should happen. One commenter suggested, “Sue!! Take them to court, ‘misunderstand’ their pockets.” Others suggested that she could have “asked to see the video” and then gone from there. The employee involved claimed they reviewed the cameras and supposedly saw Tylisha in different shoes when she entered. Did the police check the cameras?
Other commenters angrily shared their own similar experiences, saying this happens too frequently. One commenter explained, “The exact same thing happened to me at a discount/liquidation store. The owner accused me of stealing and 4 police officers surrounded me. I was patted down, my bag was searched. And when they found nothing on me, the officer accused me of hiding the item in another store.” Commenters continue to share their outrage for Tylisha, as well as share their own personal experiences or opinions on what steps she could take next.
