A video was posted to the social media platform TikTok that shows a blind elderly man in Nevada attempting to get the attention of a Regional Transportation Commission vehicle, only to be ignored.
The video sparks intense conversations online, with many condemning the transportation service for its behavior. One comment in particular explains that the video hit a lot closer to home than for some.
In the video, you can quite literally see an RTA Access vehicle on what looks to be a walkway or curb within a parking lot. Beside the vehicle is an older man holding a walking stick. He tapped the side of the vehicle several times to get the attention of the driver, but without any luck.
Fortunately, a bystander who was nearby watched the entire situation go down and offered to help. He even made note of how close the vehicle was to the older man and how he could have gotten injured as it was driving away.
The bystander made sure to post what he found online and tag the company that the vehicle belonged to. He then revealed that he was going to be taking the older gentleman, whose name was disclosed as Mario, to the Spanish Springs area of Reno, Nevada.
Reactions to Man Being Left Behind By Reno Transport in Nevada
Commenters in the replies were furious about the situation, with many praising the bystander’s actions. One person wrote, “That’s heartbreaking💔 God put you at the right spot at the right time. I’m glad you called out the company. Shame on your rtcwashoe!! Do better.”
One comment in particular was the most liked of all of them, and makes a rather large claim. It reads, “Omg thats my dad ðŸ˜ðŸ˜ðŸ˜.” In response to this comment, the original creator wrote, “RTC responded. Such a BS response. They pretty much said your dad missed his appointment so too bad. They don’t need to help him since he didn’t have an appointment.“
According to a different post, RTC did reply, acknowledging the viral video. In one part of the post, it reads, “The incident shown in the video is deeply concerning and does not reflect the level of care and safety RTC expects for any passenger, which is why RTC immediately launched an internal investigation using trip information as well as audio and video recordings from the vehicle involved.“
The rest of the post explains that there was confusion between when Mario’s appointment time was and the vehicle that arrived. However, they did acknowledge that the situation was distressing.
