The Grand Theft Auto 6 Best Buy preorder gaffe might’ve turned out into a big nothingburger, but we might just need to hold out until next month. During its May 21 investors’ meeting, Take-Two Interactive CEO Strauss Zelnick reiterated Rockstar’s marketing plan after the 2025 delay. The studio’s promotional campaign for GTA 6 is expected to begin this summer, as part of what the publisher described as a ‘breakout fiscal year’ for 2027.
“Fiscal 2027 is poised to be a breakout year for Take-Two, led by the November 19th release of Grand Theft Auto 6 – arguably, the most anticipated entertainment property of all time, and we are excited that Rockstar Games will start their marketing campaign this summer,” said Zelnick, as he once again highlighted that GTA 6‘s November launch won’t be delayed.
“Our initial financial outlook for Fiscal 2027 includes record Net Bookings of $8 to $8.2 billion. This reflects meaningful growth over last year, led by the launch of Grand Theft Auto 6.”
Still, ‘summer’ can mean two different windows depending on who’s asking. Seasonal, astronomical summer begins around June 20 or 21. In business and financial scheduling, however, summer plans typically mean the end of the second fiscal year quarter — the tail-end of June 30. So that would be more than one whole month at the very least until we get an update on the game. Nevertheless, some fans believed that any new announcement about GTA 6 could come even earlier.
Some hoped that Trailer 3 would drop on May 26, since it was supposed to be the game’s release date before the November delay. But another point of speculation is Sony’s June State of Play presentation, which is expected to highlight major releases, including Marvel’s Wolverine. Some believe the showcase could reveal a GTA 6-themed PS5 bundle, as Sony and Rockstar launched a similar strategy during the 2013 E3 conference for GTA 5 and the PS3.
Adding fuel to the fire is gaming insider Graczdari, who claimed Rockstar has given Sony ‘a little something’ for marketing purposes during the upcoming State of Play. Several other prominent gaming leakers, such as Kurakasis, backed their statement as well.
“If you can give me a link where I can bet 1000 euros that the third GTA VI trailer will be out on Tuesday, I’ll place the bet : ) I might even bet it’ll be announced tomorrow,” wrote Graczdari confidently. “Though my mates in the Sony sales department are telling me on WhatsApp to keep an eye out, as Rockstar has given Sony a little something for marketing purposes.”
Despite such a firm statement, personally, I would scratch May 26 off the list; that leaves two likely windows. Sony delivers the goods during State of Play, or late June into early July if Rockstar sticks to its summer timeline. How are your guts telling you this one will play out?
