Imagine you’re finally on your allotted lunch break for work but you don’t even get a chance to enjoy yourself. The moment when you go to eat your lunch and relax a little, a customer follows you to the back of the store. This is exactly what happened to a California worker who couldn’t help but show his irritation over the situation.
In the past, pharmacists and fast food employees have shown their irritation when customers wouldn’t allow them to take a proper lunch break. It’s apparent that a lot of people think that workers should never stop working. This is what happened to Lyric (@lyricalunaa), who was on his break at work when a customer followed him to the back of the store. Lyric can be seen in front of the back exit to the store while the customer continues talking to him instead of allowing him to have a moment of peace.
Irritated, Lyric records himself as he tells the rude, off-screen customer, “I’m on break. Like my co-worker told you, I’m on break, so you need to wait.” Lyric continues to tell them, “I’m eating.” He then tells the customer that it’s going to be about eight minutes until his break is over. He says when he’s finished, he’ll meet the impatient customer at the front of the store.
Lyric then turns the camera on himself and looks at his audience, shaking his head in disbelief. The entire time, he’s eating his food and trying to have one single moment to himself in his work day. The customer eventually relents and clearly goes to the front of the store. But this only happens after they failed to listen to Lyric’s co-worker and followed him to the back.
Commenters were astounded by the rudeness and swarmed Lyric’s comments to show their overall distaste. One commenter noted, “As far as I’m concerned, you should be able to start your break over if interrupted by customers.” Another commenter pointed out that some states actually offer legal protections for situations like these, as breaks are taken seriously. They shared, “Breaks must be uninterrupted by law. He has to take a longer break if it’s disturbed.”
Other commenters shared that they, too, have dealt with their fair share of rude customers. One commented, “And that’s why I leave the building. Cannot bother me if you cannot find me.” Commenters continue to share reactions to Lyric’s video. Many agree that he handled it in the best way and appropriately stood his ground.
