Florida Residents Skeptical as Officials Promise World Cup Economic Boom: ‘Only for the Corporate Overlords’

It is usually the workers who benefit the least

One of the biggest events happening in the US, as well as other countries, is right around the corner, and we’re talking about the World Cup. Controversies aside, we all know that this is a huge thing that will bring several foreigners to our country and will potentially bring more income for some, or at least that’s what some believe. The truth is that, despite many talking about an economic boost in Florida, some feel skeptical, as they think the ones who benefit from the World Cup are the rich ones, and not the working class.

Today, Local 10 shared an interesting article, which found its way to the Florida subreddit. Basically, it mentions how Miami is predicting a huge economic boost in the city, with the mayor even predicting a $1.3 billion impact, which, well, is a huge number.

Now, the reality is that this may well end up happening. We know that the World Cup will drive a lot of people to the country, which potentially means some businesses will benefit a lot from more sales, bookings, and so on. This will be even better for cities that host a match, as those are the ones that will truly see a bigger influx of people, which is the case for Miami.

Even if the predictions sound tempting and possible to an extent, it seems that some residents in Florida are pretty skeptical about this “economic boost”, as some think that the ones who benefit are the owners, but not the ones working in these businesses, which will be pretty hectic.

Florida Residents Believe Business Owners Will Benefit the Most

After reading the article, many Redditors started talking about how this economic boost would only benefit a minority, mainly those who own businesses, as some believe that this won’t really put more money into the pockets of the working class.

“Only for the corporate overlords, of course.“

Others, however, think that the economic boost won’t happen at all, as the US is known for being aggressive to foreigners lately, which could potentially threaten ticket sales and more.

“Nobody wants to visit the US. Too dangerous, and nobody wants to spend their money in America because of Trump.“

“People don’t want to visit the US because it’s too expensive to get here, and that is because of Trump.“

In the end, all of the above is speculation, and we don’t know what will truly happen once the World Cup begins.
