It may seem as if it were yesterday, but Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth launched all the way back in 2024, meaning that we’ve been without a new adventure from Cloud and his gang for a while. Well, thankfully, that’s not the case anymore because the last and best surprise of Summer Game Fest was the reveal of Final Fantasy 7 Revelation, the final chapter in this trilogy, and one that is raising the bar even higher than it did in Rebirth with new exploration mechanics, companions, and combat systems that hardcore Final Fantasy fans will love.
Final Fantasy 7 Revelation Is Set to Launch in Spring 2027
That’s right. After a very long wait, speculation about the name of this final title, and people trying to figure out in which show we’d see it, we finally have Final Fantasy 7 Revelation, the final chapter of this trilogy, and one that is looking much better than any of us anticipated.
First, the release date: there isn’t an exact one yet. Still, that doesn’t mean we don’t know when it will likely arrive. Naoki Hamaguchi and Matt Mercer confirmed that the long-awaited title will launch sometime in Spring 2027. While that is a bit far away, we at least got some new gameplay details of what we can expect in Final Fantasy 7 Revelation, and among the things that caught our attention were the new exploration, fighting, and class mechanics. First, we’ll be able to fly on the Highwind, and we’ll even be able to transition from the sky to the many maps on the map seamlessly and by using a slick parachute.
For combat, Cid and Vince Valentine are joining the playable fray. Both of them will have unique playstyles, and while we all love Cid’s Dragoon skills, Vince’s abilities really stole the spotlight. Yet, that wasn’t all of it, as it seems there is a job or class system also coming with Revelation, as we saw Cloud use some Warrior skills and Tifa some Black Mage ones. It is still unclear how each of them will work, but we’re excited to learn more about this new system in the coming months.
And while this is extremely exciting, it also feels somewhat bittersweet, as we know this is the beginning of the end. Final Fantasy 7 Revelation will mark the end of an era, and one of the best at that. Square Enix raised the bar when it comes to Final Fantasy remakes, and we are all eagerly waiting to see Cloud and the gang go for one last adventure together.
