‘Drain This Place of Its Benefits’: Georgia Commentator Larry Reid Sparks Backlash After Urging Black Americans to Leave the U.S.

Has he made plans to leave yet?

Georgia commentator and gospel artist Larry Reid is getting ridiculed on the internet after a clip from his talk show began circulating on social media showing him encouraging Black Americans to consider leaving the United States and relocating to Africa. Reid made the remarks on Thursday’s broadcast of Larry Reid Live titled The Karmelo Case | Mastering The Juxtaposition. The viral clip generated a flood of responses from people who questioned whether he truly believes what he is advocating.

BLM activist Larry Reid calls for black Americans to have “mass exodus” to Africa.

“I want you to begin to think about this America and the white people problem that we have… let’s drain this place of its benefits and make our mass exodus and go home…” pic.twitter.com/YHSDsCTqak

During the broadcast, Reid discussed the verdict of Karmelo Anthony, a 19-year-old Black teen who was recently convicted in the fatal stabbing of a white teen during an altercation at a track meet in Frisco, Texas. While reacting to Anthony’s 35-year sentence, Reid suggested that Black people should start thinking about building their futures elsewhere rather than continuing to invest their efforts in the U.S.

He claimed that while integration had benefited Black Americans in many ways, racism still remains deeply rooted in the country. “Let’s drain this place of its benefits and make our mass exodus and go home and build,” Reid stated. “See, civil rights did not make white people that are infected with whiteness stop being racist. They still raised racist children that run this country to this day.”

Reid said the country used Black people’s “power,” “mysticism,” and “physiological superiority” to build the nation but offered no reparations in return. He urged Blacks who did not feel called to remain in the U.S. to return to what he referred to as their ancestral homeland and “begin charity at home.”

Netizens’ Reaction to Larry Reid Remarks

On X, many people reacting to the video criticized the Georgia commentator for his remarks. “If your unhappy, leave. But race bating is wrong,” one commenter wrote. Another stated, “If a white person would say the same, you would be the first to go crazy… You’re a disgrace to America.”

Some viewers felt that Reid was exaggerating the value of the resources and benefits he claimed Black Americans bring to the country. “Mass exodus? Nothing of value would be leaving,” one comment read. “Someone buy this guy a ticket. Anybody that thinks this way – Americans would benefit if we helped them leave,” a different netizen chimed in.

Others were skeptical that Reid had any intention of relocating himself. “I noticed that he doesn’t seem to be making any plans to leave for himself,” one person remarked. “Let me guess, he wants others to do it but he won’t,” another said. “All talk and no action,” a third mocked. “When are they planning on leaving? My guess is NEVER!” someone else added.

A few people also questioned how such a proposal would be received in Africa. “What makes him think African [sic] want that?” one X user asked. Another claimed, “I have never met a real African who likes Black Americans. As a matter of fact, I know several who take offense at the use of African-American as a descriptor.”

The incident surrounding Anthony’s case has become heavily politicized, with some people viewing it through the lens of race. Public opinion has also remained split over whether he acted in self-defense or committed an unjustified act of violence.
