Washington DC Double Rainbow Appears Over Kennedy Center After Trump’s Name Is Removed: ‘Poetic Justice’

Double rainbow, double meaning

What was already an event attracting attention in Washington, DC, took on a somewhat cinematic aura when a double rainbow appeared directly above the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts as workers started removing Donald Trump’s name from its facade. The coincidental timing immediately made it a trending topic online, with many dubbing it “poetic justice.”

A video posted on X by user @LePapillonBlu2 shows the Kennedy Center’s exterior and a section of the building with scaffolding erected around Trump’s name, with a double rainbow prominently featured in the sky behind it.

The caption accompanying the post read, “It’s like poetic justice how there’s a double rainbow outside the John Kennedy Center as Trump’s name is being removed.”

A federal judge’s ruling mandates the removal of Trump’s name from the Kennedy Center, finding that the addition of Trump’s name was unlawful. U.S. District Judge Christopher Cooper reportedly set a June 12 deadline for the Kennedy Center to comply with the ruling. Still, the center then requested an extension, which a judge granted until noon ET on Saturday due to thunderstorms in Washington DC, that delayed scaffolding work.

A crowd of about 150 reportedly watched on Friday as a 14-member crew worked on scaffolding to remove the 18 letters of Trump’s name.

Internet Reacts to Double Rainbow as Trump’s Name Is Removed in Washington DC

The footage sparked a wave of reactions online, with many viewers framing the rainbow’s timing as a symbolic moment while others focused on the public turnout itself.

One commenter wrote, “I love that removal of his name draws a crowd lol.” Another took a more personal tone, writing, “I’d rather turn Off the TV & watch Nothing than watch Anything that has to do with him!”

Several comments leaned into the symbolism of the rainbow itself. One user simply wrote, “Mother Nature got it right,” while another offered a more spiritual interpretation: “That’s JFK showing his happiness from Heaven.”

Others compared the crowd size to the original installation of Trump’s name, with one commenter noting, “There are way more people there to watch his name being taken down than there were to see his name being put up.”

By Saturday morning, workers were pulling individual letters off the Washington DC building. This incident comes as the name removal is part of a larger legal case that began after Trump allegedly instructed that his name be added to the Kennedy Center’s signage, following a vote by his loyalist-selected board to alter its branding.
