With The Witcher 4 currently in development and CD Projekt recently confirming a brand-new DLC for The Witcher 3, fans already have plenty to look forward to. However, it appears the company may have even more plans for the franchise. A new report claims that an action RPG co-op multiplayer-focused The Witcher game is currently in the works — but it might disappoint PlayStation and Xbox owners.

According to an anonymous report from MP1st, CD Projekt is working with a third-party studio for a free-to-play co-op action RPG set in The Witcher universe. The report claims the game is currently targeting PC and mobile releases with cross-platform support, but no mention of console versions.

This yet unnamed The Witcher multiplayer game is said to be set in the year 1230, decades before the events of the game. The first The Witcher itself took place in 1270, meaning Geralt would still be quite young, and more witchers are running around in this time period. This fits with the gameplay system too, as players can create their own custom Witcher and develop their skills through different Witcher schools.

Gameplay reportedly focuses on taking monster-hunting contracts across a variety of locations, perhaps similar to Monster Hunter games. Considering it’s also aiming for PC and mobile release, MP1st added that the scale might be closer to Guerrilla Games’ spin-off, Horizon Steel Frontiers.

Meanwhile, the combat system is described as ‘skill-based,’ rewarding precise timing through blocks, dodges, parries, and executions. Players will also be able to use Signs and brew potions just like in the other single-player entries.

Previously, there were talks about CD Projekt working on ‘Project Sirius,’ a The Witcher spin-off featuring both single-player and multiplayer elements. But the report suggests this new project may be something entirely different.

It also doesn’t tell what studio is responsible for developing this The Witcher co-op multiplayer game. However, the Polish-based company recently entered a partnership with Scopely. The latter is now responsible for Pokémon GO and Monster Hunter Now, after it bought Niantic’s gaming division in early 2025.

As always, treat any report as a rumor until the project is officially announced. Still, let’s hope this won’t turn into another geolocation-based game.
