Backlash Grows in Florida as Attorney General Blasted for Prioritizing TikTok Fight Over Actual, Local Crimes: ‘Does He Do Anything About Actual Criminals?’

This might be news to many, but there is one battle that Florida, especially the Attorney General, is fighting: suing TikTok. The Florida government has sued the social media titan for illegally allowing minors and not protecting them from harmful content, while also misleading parents about what kids may find on the platform. Now, while on paper the battle may sound great, this news has sparked backlash, as many believe the Attorney General should be focusing on capturing real criminals rather than something they don’t believe is a priority, at least now.

The report, which comes from WPTV, mentions how Florida is suing TikTok for essentially being an unsafe platform for minors, as well as for not telling parents what type of content is on the platform. The one who filed the lawsuit was none other than Attorney General James Uthmeier.

So far, some think it might be a good idea to do this, as kids have almost unrestricted access to the internet nowadays, so more limitations would be ideal. However, it seems only a minority thinks so, because others believe it is unnecessary, especially after looking at the bigger picture of what is happening in the state.

Florida Residents Think the Attorney General Should Focus on More Important Things

This lawsuit caused nothing but backlash among the population. Many claim that the Attorney General should focus on putting real criminals behind bars rather than fighting TikTok, which they believe will be counterproductive and expensive in the long run.

“Does he do anything about actual criminals, or just a bunch of performative culture war nonsense?“

Others, however, think the fight might be lost and that it’s ironic in a way. Many claim that a MAGA member owns the platform, which makes the whole lawsuit look even stranger.

“It is owned by multiple companies in the USA. One of them is Oracle, whose current CEO, Larry Ellison, is a MAGA supporter. They probably provide the servers that TikTok runs on.“

Lastly, some people raised another concern, saying that what kids watch on the platform isn’t TikTok’s fault but the parents’ for not monitoring what their children do online.

“Maybe those parents should be paying more attention.“

Ultimately, this battle caught many eyes, but not in a good way. People believe the Attorney General should drop it and focus on other issues affecting Floridians.
