California Man Says ‘7-Ton Animal’ Lives Above Him, Internet Blames Apartment Developers: ‘It’s Not Their Weight’

Well… that’s a solution

A California man is going viral after joking that apartment complexes should start separating residents by size. His reasoning? The person living above him has apparently been stomping around with enough force to convince him that the ceiling might collapse. The video sparked a mix of laughter, apartment horror stories, and debates about whether the real issue was the building itself.

Posting on TikTok under @calebrichhh, the man explained that the issue started shortly after moving into the apartment. At first, he assumed the constant shaking and loud thuds coming from upstairs were the result of construction. He even reached out to property management. The noise briefly stopped before eventually returning.

After months of dealing with the issue, Caleb jokingly proposed a new apartment policy. “They need apartments for like big people only,” he said before adding, “I don’t know what 7-ton animal lives above me, but it’s like my ceiling is going to concave.”

Things apparently got worse when he lightly tapped the ceiling with a broom one night in an attempt to let his upstairs neighbor know the noise was carrying through the floor. Instead of getting some peace and quiet, he says he received a lengthy note in return.

The California apartment drama then took an unexpected turn when he later realized he and the neighbor apparently had mutual friends. Rather than confront the man directly, Caleb says he’s been trying to avoid turning the situation into an all-out feud. Unfortunately, he also says the late-night stomping has shown no signs of slowing down.

TikTok Weighs In on the California Apartment Drama

Most commenters seemed less interested in debating whether the upstairs neighbor was actually responsible for the noise and more interested in what they called Caleb’s hilarious storytelling. Still, a number of viewers pushed back on the idea that the problem had anything to do with the neighbor’s size.

“It’s not their weight, it’s the space between the ceiling and the floor. It’s hollow. Those are cheaply built apartments,” one user argued. Another kept it simple: “Blame the developers. Not the people.” Others acknowledged that the jokes may have been a little harsh but admitted they were laughing anyway. “Stoppp that’s so mean,” one commenter wrote, while another added, “This has me in tears, it’s so mean but the way you’re telling it is hysterical.”

Plenty of viewers also related to the frustration of having a noisy upstairs neighbor. “This exact thing happened to me! I had to move! It was so bad for my mental health. I was getting no sleep,” one person shared. Of course, this being the internet, some commenters saw a completely different plot unfolding.

After learning that Caleb and his upstairs neighbor apparently have mutual friends, viewers began pitching a far less hostile ending to the story. As one commenter suggested: “maybe it’s the start of a love story.”

Overall, most commenters seemed to sympathize with Caleb’s situation, with many sharing stories of their own noisy neighbors. Others even offered tips and tricks that had helped them survive similar living situations.
