A New York man was filmed trashing a Taco Bell restaurant and throwing items at employees during a confrontation over what he claimed was an incorrect order.
The video shared online claimed that the incident took place in Rochester. The man was seen standing at the counter and yelling that he “got all the way home.” This appeared to suggest that he had already returned home before realizing that his order was incorrect.
“I got all the way home,” the man repeatedly yelled at the employee. He then used profanity and called the employee the N-word before grabbing the food bag and throwing it at him. The man continued repeating the racial slur before picking up other items from the counter and throwing them at the same employee.
As the man continued throwing items at the employee, including what appeared to be plastic containers, the employee began walking toward him. “Don’t do nothing. I got it,” the woman filming the incident told the employee, seemingly telling him not to react because she was recording what was happening.
“Let’s go,” the angry customer challenged the employee, who tried to shield himself as the man continued throwing items at him. The customer eventually began leaving the restaurant, only to return and yell at a female employee. “It’s my money,” he repeatedly shouted as the first employee clapped in response to his behavior.
The female employee then tried to explain that they were not working when he placed his order, but he continued yelling at them. “My order [expletive] up,” he yelled. The employee responded that they had remade his order. “Get the [expletive] out,” the male employee then told him. Instead of leaving immediately, the man grabbed another container and threw it at the employee.
Finally, the man exited the store. “He wasn’t even working,” the camerawoman yelled at him, referring to the employee. She then began shouting, “He’s getting something. He’s getting a rock.” The employee immediately held the store’s door closed to prevent the man from entering again. The man did appear to be holding something in his hand, but he left again after seeing the employee holding the door. The video ended with the woman yelling, “You’re crazy as hell.” It was unclear whether the man returned again or if police became involved.
Viewers Call Out New York Man Over Behavior at Taco Bell
After seeing the video, many viewers criticized the New York man for his reaction to the incorrect order, arguing it was unnecessary. “That’s not a man that’s an elderly child,” one person wrote. Another viewer believed similar incidents were becoming increasingly common. “I swear this is becoming more and more frequent,” they wrote.
More people criticized the man, with one person writing, “People that give [expletive] to these minimum wage workers are the scum of the earth.” Others believed that stores may begin taking additional security measures because of incidents like this. “I just saw a picture of a McDonald’s that had plexiglass and metal covering the counter. This is what everything is going to be like if this is how people behave,” another person said.
The video prompted discussion about the importance of customers not attacking employees, particularly over issues such as an incorrect order. Some viewers also discussed what establishments could do to protect their employees from similar incidents better.
