A black Texas woman experienced what she calls a situation with a ‘store walker.’ Recently, she was walking around a store doing her regular shopping when an employee started following her. She thought this seemed suspicious, so she decided to do a little digging.
Teash (@teash_duetqueen) was doing some shopping at a Texas store. On her way out, she turned around and decided to go check out some lip stain makeup before leaving. She turned back around and re-entered the store to look for it. While doing so, Teash says a man walked past her. She immediately recognized him as a “store walker,” or somebody working for loss prevention. She said he was dressed regularly but had a radio on him. The man had a radio on him and mentioned Teash, who he said was wearing a “bright shirt.”
It’s at this point that Teash knows he’s suspicious of her and is following her around the store. She thought this was weird because she “wasn’t doing anything.” While she was looking at the makeup she wanted to purchase, she saw him circle back around her. She got her makeup and approached the checkout counter to buy it. She turned around and saw the loss prevention employee standing right there, where she was.
Teash paid for her makeup and said the whole situation didn’t “sit right” with her. So, after making her purchase, she started following him. When Teash finally approached him, she asked, “What are you doing?” She said this made him very obviously uncomfortable. He put his finger to his lips and shushed her when she asked. Teash found the whole interaction deeply intrusive but hilarious.
Commenters immediately responded to Teash’s video, showing support for her and how she handled the situation. Commenters replied with what they would have said if this situation happened to them. One commenter said, “You wanna work, let’s earn that check boo.” Another commenter said they would have asked, “If you’re gonna follow me, can we at least hold hands?”
Commenters continue to share the hilarious ways they deal with loss prevention in stores. One commenter shared, “I walk them through the whole store. Let’s get these steps in!” Commenters continue to react to Teash’s video, sharing their opinions on how best to handle these situations and protect themselves in-store.
