A Texas man, after continuous refusals to submit to the homeowner association (HOA)’s apparently ridiculous lawn demands, received a written complaint. Out of all things, he was accused of having a lawn striping pattern that was “excessively straight.” Will he submit to the HOA after this? Probably not.
The letter was read aloud by Steven Compton. He is a popular lawn care creator who runs ReelLawnGuy, a lawn mower business. His content, as expected, revolves around lawn, but as of recently, he has been reacting to what appears to be ridiculous HOA demands regarding his own. The clip attached above is one of those reactions, garnering 682,300 views, 26,800 likes, and more than 3,400 comments in over a day.
The Texas man was ready to roll, telling his followers to buckle up. The reason? After other attempts to have him change his lawn failed, he received his very first HOA letter. Possibly not certified, the man proceeded to read the complaint aloud, for his followers to enjoy, and possibly laugh at. As per the HOA, his lawn had been found in “violation.” The reason is shocking, to say the least.
“Following a recent inspection, the board of directors has determined that your lawn located at the above-referenced property contains striping patterns that are excessively straight,” Steven read.
Lawn Violation And Corrective Measures?
The man, in disbelief, said he had planned that, but he then continued. Apparently, he had violated rule section 4.8b: “Maintaining lawn quality beyond reasonable neighborhood expectations.” While unsure what that meant exactly, he proceeded to read the description of the violation in question, which took the levels of pettiness to a whole new level.
“Lawn stripes visible from excessive distance. Striping patterns appear professionally maintained. Neighboring lawns adversely affected by comparison,” the Texas man read.
Again, Steven said he wasn’t sure what any of that meant, but he pointed out that two of his neighbors have perfect lawns. Most likely, and as shown in past clips, he was the man behind those perfect lawns. Either way, he then read the “required correction.”
“Mow in random directions. Skip at least one mowing cycle per week. Allow visible wheel marks. Refrain from posting lawn photographs on social media,” the HOA letter read.
Finally, the letter warned Steven that, should he keep mowing his own lawn, he would face “additional enforcement actions.” This, as per the HOA, includes restrictions on real mower usage. Steven said, “Yeah, I like to see you try.”
Reactions
The video sparked multiple reactions, mostly from viewers who didn’t find any issue at all. One said, “Wait… Are they saying your lawn looks too good?” Another commented, “Sounds like your HOA is inserting their personal opinions into the code.”
One viewer told Steven to get a lawyer to send a cease and desist letter to the HOA. They added, “You don’t need a yard czar watching your every move.” Another user wrote, “I see where you went wrong: You moved into a house with an HOA.” Steven responded that everything was fine until new neighbors moved in over the years.
It appears that Steven will ignore the letter completely. Right after posting the attached clip, he shared two more TikToks in which he is seen mowing his lawn in the “excessively straight” pattern he is known for.
