Bad actors will often do anything to defend their actions, and one man in Ohio clearly expressed his malicious desperation as he tried to justify his questionable use of a drone. According to 7SeraphKey in her post on r/legal, this man is her neighbor and allegedly flew his drone by her second-floor bedroom window. “It was not just passing by. It was stationary, camera lens pointed straight into my room,” 7SeraphKey recalled.
The neighbor claims he was just “checking out the neighborhood” with his drone’s camera shut off, which 7SeraphKey believes was a lie. He was flying his device by her window for a reason, according to her. “I was half-undressed and felt completely violated by the whole thing,” she recalled.
After spotting the buzzing drone by her bedroom, 7SeraphKey says she swatted it down with a towel, knocking it onto the pavement below. It was just a few minutes before her neighbor approached her home, clearly upset she’d attacked his property. “He is threatening to sue me for property damage and claims he has a right to fly in ‘public airspace’ even if it is over my private yard,” OP wrote.
She claims it feels “insane” that she’s being held responsible for defending herself against the neighbor’s “voyeur toy.” She’s not alone in this opinion; several thousand Redditors share the same thoughts and condemn the neighbor’s alleged actions.
Reddit Claims This Ohio Neighbor Violated a Voyeurism Law with His Drone
“Ohio takes this seriously. He violated the Voyeurism ORC 2907.08. Ohio views him using a drone as the same as him standing outside your window watching you,” remarked a commenter. The user encouraged 7SeraphKey to use this code when demanding help again from the police, as she said they brushed her aside the first time she attempted to file a report.
“Report him to the FAA. This is an invasion of privacy. I’ve dealt with the same thing and used to fly drones myself,” suggested another user. “The fact that you took this drone down with a towel speaks volumes about where it was,” added a third. “Camera off…but knows where he was flying it and knows you hit it. Riiight..,” expressed a fourth.
7SeraphKey claims she’s well on her way to filing an FAA report. That said, she and plenty of others couldn’t believe that someone would do this so boldly in an Ohio neighborhood. “The fact that he thinks his toy’s safety matters more than my basic right to privacy in my own bedroom is just baffling to me,” she wrote.
