To say these past few days have been hectic for Sony and PlayStation would be an understatement. As many of you already know, thanks to the hundreds of articles and social media posts, the video game titan announced that it would stop producing physical discs, and the backlash was so big that it forced the company to go silent on social media. Days after the shocking announcement, PlayStation has returned to find an angry mob of gamers and social media accounts ready to remind it of its questionable decision.
PlayStation Returns to Social Media After Announcing the Discontinuation of Physical Games
Many of us were expecting PlayStation’s silence to bring good news, but it wasn’t the case. Instead, the official X account of the company posted a video today talking about the new FlexStrike controller. However, no one truly reacted to it, as several people, gamers, and even big companies, started reminding PlayStation of the announcement it made last week.
The furious mob of X users filled PlayStation’s post with messages demanding the return of physical discs, as well as claiming that they won’t buy any other game coming from Sony until the company reverses its decision. The backlash was so big that many other companies joined the shower of complaints.
Among the most liked comments is one from Domino’s Pizza UK, which just says, “Did someone order a digital pizza?” Clearly mocking the recent news and the pizza company’s joke that it would transition to selling digital pizzas only.
However, this was only the tip of the iceberg, as other users also joined in with sarcastic comments.
PlayStation Fans Are Furious At The Company’s Lack of Accountability
It didn’t take long for X users to follow Domino’s example and also post their own sarcastic remarks toward PlayStation.
“I was hoping it was a digital controller.“
“Is it a digital controller or a physical one?“
Others, however, noted that Sony has been completely ignoring the community, to the point that, instead of acknowledging what is happening, it just swept it under the rug and posted about a new controller.
“So after a 5-day hiatus, this is all you post?“
While Sony and PlayStation remain quiet, the community is doing the opposite. There are many petitions out there, with the biggest one being “Don’t Kill the Disc,” which already has over 100k signatures. It is unclear whether that will work and convince Sony to reverse its decision, but gamers seem to be on a “don’t forget” stance, which could impact the company moving forward.
