Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson posted a message on X challenging President Trump to redirect $100 billion from what he described as military spending to investments in healthcare, jobs, education, housing, transportation, and environmental justice across U.S. cities. According to the post, the funding shift would help drive down violence nationwide. The message, which includes video of the mayor, has prompted strong reactions online from users focused on Chicago’s local issues.

Consider this my call, Mr. President: instead of spending $100 billion dollars bombing innocent children in your illegal wars, send $100 billion to cities across America to invest in healthcare, jobs, education, housing, transportation, and environmental justice.

The clip begins with footage of President Trump at a podium with American flags behind him, stating, “I JUST WISH THAT I’D GET A CALL FROM THE MAYOR OF CHICAGO” and “ALL THEY HAVE TO DO IS SAY, ‘SIR, WE NEED HELP.’” It then cuts to Mayor Brandon Johnson seated at a table with the Chicago and U.S. flags visible. Johnson says, “I’M CALLING ON YOU TO RESPOND TO THE NEEDS OF,” adds that “IF YOU WANT TO SEE VIOLENCE GO DOWN IN THIS CITY” investments are needed in “EDUCATION, HOUSING, HEALTHCARE,” and declares, “IF YOU ARE THE BIG MAN AND THE BIG PERSON THAT YOU CLAIM TO BE MAKE THOSE INVESTMENTS.” He urges “SEND $100 BILLION TO CITIES ACROSS AMERICA” instead of sending it to fight illegal wars, and concludes, “GOD BLESS THE GREATEST CITY IN THE WORLD.”

The accompanying post text presents the message as a direct call to the President to redirect $100 billion from military spending to domestic investments in cities. The video includes Johnson’s reference to not sending the funds to fight illegal wars.

Chicago Mayor’s Message to Trump Sparks Online Debate

Many users urged the mayor to prioritize local issues. One commenter wrote, “Clean your own house first. Then we can talk. Until then, you’re just another grandstanding *expletive* who hates Orange Man.”

Another stated, “Maybe you should concentrate on the children of Chicago: how many children have been killed in the South Side of Chicago, and how much money have you spent on illegal aliens?”

Some focused on city spending and broader policies, with a comment reading, “If people can’t afford groceries or gas, it’s because you lunatic liberals flooded our country with criminal illegal invaders and handed everything to them. Sit down, sir.”

Others questioned federal funding requests, noting, “We’d have $100B to spend on all that if the Democrats hadn’t sucked it all away in hundreds of wasteful and fraudulent social programs.”

The exchange adds another flashpoint to the ongoing debate between city leaders and the Trump administration over federal spending priorities. The clip continues to circulate as users weigh in on local governance and national policy choices.
