While most people were celebrating the United States’ birthday on July 4, some people chose to spend the day protesting a restaurant in the Hamptons, New York. However, the motives behind the alleged incident are highly debated. Some say it was about “Jew hatred,” while others insist the issue was political.
Those of the former belief say that the New York restaurant was attacked simply because the alleged owner, Marc Rowan, is Jewish. However, people in the latter camp insist that the issue is Rowan’s involvement with the Board of Peace and his alleged ties to Jeffrey Epstein.
According to Rowan’s Wikipedia page, “In January 2026, President Donald Trump appointed Rowan to the executive board of the Board of Peace, a body charged with providing strategic oversight of the reconstruction of the Gaza Strip as part of the broader ceasefire effort to end the Gaza War.” His Wikipedia page does acknowledge ties to Epstein as well. However, it’s worth pointing out that not everyone mentioned in the files has necessarily done anything wrong.
Regardless, many believe that the restaurant was attacked for being owned by a Jewish man, and Rowan’s own controversies had nothing to do with it. Many are even comparing the 2026 Hamptons incident to 1930s Germany.
One person commented on the clip, “We must take a stand against hatred. Disturbing mirror of 1930s Germany.” Another echoed, “This is a hate crime, and they need to be charged. More importantly, they need to be educated on the reality of what’s happening, not what social media tells them.” Many expressed a desire to support the restaurant and shared plans to make a point of going there. However, the name of the restaurant was not included in the video.
However, others celebrated the protestors’ actions, with comments such as, “Not all heroes wear capes.” Others expressed skepticism that the issue was the owner is Jewish, writing sentiments such as, “I feel there is more to the story.” Interestingly, as mentioned, the name of the restaurant and its owner were censored out of the clip that’s circulating online.
One person noticed the lack of context and commented on the clip, “I couldn’t find any news reports on this and nothing on the published police blotters in Sag Harbor. … I would also like to see and hear the whole video, for context. (What was bleeped out?)” They were swiftly met with a flood of responses along the lines of, “In what context is this okay?“
As of the time of writing, there has not been any widespread news coverage of the New York incident. The only information anyone who wasn’t there has is the clip being shared on social media. For now, it remains unclear whether the demonstrators were indeed motivated by antisemitism or if they were protesting Rowan himself.
