In Wyoming, Republican House candidate Reid Rasner is suing GOP figures after pedophilia accusations spread during his campaign. Rasner, an openly gay Republican running for Wyoming’s lone House seat, filed defamation claims over the accusations. He is set to settle one case against an Iowa man who called him a “pedophile” under campaign Facebook posts.
Rasner is also pursuing a case against a former Wyoming GOP state senator. He alleges the former senator led a whisper campaign accusing him of sexual misconduct.
Rasner said the rumors began after his 2025 TikTok bid and continued into 2026. He said they damaged his reputation and campaign before he sued over posts spreading the pedophilia claim.
Rasner said he has also been excluded from some candidate forums since the rumors started. A Wyoming Family Alliance representative said organizers excluded him because they worried he was overly litigious.
Public Reaction to Reid Rasner Lawsuit Turns Toward Party Loyalty
The lawsuit pushed the discussion beyond the allegations, with many responses focusing on Rasner’s place inside the Republican Party.
One user wrote, “On one hand, nobody should be subjected to that, on the other, like what did you expect?” Another response stated, “I have a hard time feeling sympathy for a gay person actively supporting a party trying to take away gay rights.” A separate user added, “Maybe you are in the wrong party, Sparky.” Another comment argued, “They didn’t mind when the party was painting all LGBTQ people as predators, they just didn’t think they’d be next. Being the exception never works out the way you think it will.”
Others rejected the idea that Rasner’s sexuality should dictate his politics. One response stated, “Sexual orientation doesn’t determine someone’s political beliefs, and people can support whichever party or policies best reflect their own values.”
Rasner’s lawsuit leaves him fighting the allegations in court while debate continues over his standing inside the Republican Party.
