Texas Woman Says Stolen Car Was Sold on Facebook Marketplace: ‘And Who Purchase a Car Without a Title Anyway?!’

A Texas woman has gone viral after claiming her stolen rental vehicle was fraudulently sold to another buyer through Facebook Marketplace. The incident drew widespread attention after she confronted the people who had purchased the car and found them already removing parts from it. The case has also raised concerns about vehicle fraud and the risks of buying cars through online marketplaces.

@shifilestaxes

DO NOT buy cars off FACEBOOK MARKETPLACE unless you know cars and titles for real!! UPDATE: The individuals shown in this video WERE NOT the renter who stole my vehicle. They appear to have unknowingly purchased it after it was fraudulently sold. Faces were intentionally blurred because my goal was never to identify uninvolved individuals. My purpose is to raise awareness about this type of vehicle fraud. In other words…. LEAVE THEM PEOPLE ALONE.

The story was shared on TikTok by @shifilestaxes, where the videos have accumulated several million views and thousands of comments. The creator documented her efforts to locate the vehicle after it was allegedly stolen and later tracked down through a Facebook Marketplace sale.

In the video, the Texas woman arrives at the location where her vehicle had been taken and confronts the people in possession of it. Through a translation app, they tell her they had purchased the vehicle four days earlier. During the encounter, she notices they appear to be removing the vehicle’s kill switch and dismantling parts of the car while insisting they were unaware it had been stolen.

The creator repeatedly tells them the vehicle belongs to her and explains that it had been stolen before being sold. The video ends without showing whether the car was immediately recovered or how the confrontation was resolved.

After the clip gained attention, the Texas woman urged viewers not to harass the people shown in the video. She clarified that they were not the individuals she believes stole the vehicle and said they appeared to have unknowingly purchased it after it was fraudulently sold. She explained that her goal was to raise awareness about vehicle fraud rather than identify uninvolved people.

In a later update, she said she had already involved law enforcement and identified the person she claims sold the vehicle. She also warned viewers to be extremely cautious when buying vehicles through Facebook Marketplace, especially if they are unfamiliar with titles and ownership documents.

Texas Vehicle Fraud Draws Strong Reactions

The comment section was largely supportive of the Texas woman, with many viewers praising how calmly she handled what they described as a tense and potentially dangerous situation. Several said she remained remarkably composed while confronting the people in possession of her vehicle, adding that they would have reacted far more emotionally under the same circumstances.

At the same time, many urged the Texas woman to prioritize her safety, warning that approaching people connected to a stolen vehicle could have ended badly. Numerous commenters said they would have waited for police to arrive before confronting anyone, stressing that recovering a car is never worth risking personal safety.

Others believed the people shown in the video may have unknowingly purchased the stolen vehicle, pointing to their reactions during the encounter. Some also questioned how the alleged seller managed to transfer ownership documents in the first place. One user wrote, “And who purchases a car without a title anyway?!”

If there’s one lesson many viewers took away, it’s this: a bargain on Facebook Marketplace can become a very expensive mystery.
