New York Woman Calls Out ‘Insane’ Price of Croissant After Finding Out They’re from Costco: ‘Literal Robbery’

This happens too frequently for my liking

People on social media are clearly fed up overpaying for average things. From gas to housing, everything is more expensive than just a few short years ago. Now, a New York woman is speaking up after she witnessed a restaurant travesty. It has her questioning what other restaurants try to get away with.

TikToker Serenity (@tallbrowngirlll) shared a video on something that shocked her when she was at an NYC restaurant. While visiting Le Parisien Patisserie, she ordered a pistachio croissant. She claims they paid $12 for it, though most of their croissants are listed on their menu at $5 unless they’re filled. Either way, she thought the price was “insane” but you’ll pay to have an item freshly baked at a bakery, right?

But little did she know, the croissant was a scam. Serenity didn’t get the freshly-baked croissant she was hoping for. She recorded while a delivery man walked into the café with an entire crate of croissants. He placed them in front of the cash register. Appalled, Serenity states to her audience, “The croissants are from Costco.” He sets down multiple boxes of the croissants, which were clearly shipped in from the wholesaler and not baked fresh at the café.

Serenity pans the camera back to her to show her audience her disgust. She exclaims, “Absolutely insane! Insane. Don’t come here. I don’t recommend.”

No matter what, Serenity ended up paying for the croissant, but it wasn’t baked at the café as she expected. She felt cheated by the product, as you typically expect fresh when you pay for bakery items. As one commenter pointed out, “That’s a wild profit!! They are 50 cents each.”

Commenters share their reactions on Serenity’s video, with many of them blown away by business practices and high prices. As one commenter mentioned, “I’ve normalized walking out on ridiculous prices and misleading business. The moment they said a croissant was $12 I would have said yeah, cancel it. It’s pushed me out of my comfort zone to find legit good places to eat that deserve my money.” Another asked, “Y’all don’t remember that Long Beach café that was serving Popeyes chicken with its chicken and waffles?”

Other commenters shared that you have to be wary when you’re out and about buying at restaurants these days. As one pointed out, “Unless you’re seeing the croissants come from the back on fresh baked racks, coffee shops are always pulling this.” Commenters continue to speak out against these practices and show support for businesses that refuse to engage.
