A Florida woman has sparked controversy after posting on social media that she recently relocated to a new neighborhood. After getting called out for supposedly insulting her own race, the woman has recorded a new video addressing the backlash.

The content creator who goes by Ms. Marilyn shared that she had moved to what she described as a predominantly white area in order to give her son a better life. Many people began to attack Ms. Marilyn for her comments and called her a race traitor. She has now responded via her TikTok account, and she’s doubled down on her earlier sentiments.

The clip’s comments section was overwhelmingly supportive of the woman, as Ms. Marilyn stood by her controversial comments. One person wrote, “Don’t EVER apologize for wanting the best for your child.” Another echoed, “Never feel bad for protecting your peace and family!“

Internet Supports the Florida Mother

Many seemed to believe that Ms. Marilyn’s haters were simply jealous of her relocation. One TikToker expressed, “Sometimes oppression comes from your own kind.” However, others argued that race had nothing to do with it, although they agreed with the sentiment that the issue stems from jealousy. Many TikTokers from various races shared their own stories about being criticized by their communities for wanting a different kind of life.

While some believed the hate stemmed from jealousy, and others felt it was about race, a third train of thought was political in nature. One person commented, “Tell it, sister. The democrats are trying to keep all people of color down. We’re not racist, sweetheart.” In a similar attempt to clarify a lack of racism, someone else wrote, “I’m a white dude and don’t mind at all for a classy black woman living beside me. One love.“

Most people simply shared that they like Ms. Marilyn’s personality, believe she is a good mother, and would be more than happy to call her their neighbor. In fact, the content creator has seen her social media following grow substantially since the controversy began!

As one Ms. Marilyn supporter shared in the comments section, “I’ve never understood why a parent would keep their child in a place where there are shootings and gangs. As a mother, I would get my child out of that situation.“

Whether she’s right or wrong, the controversy surrounding Ms. Marilyn has certainly boosted her online presence. So much so, in fact, that it would be unsurprising if she soon moves to yet a third zip code!
