Michigan Democrats Afraid as Mike Rogers Leads El-Sayed in Polls: ‘Haley Stevens’ attack ads didn’t help this’

Seems like it could be hard for El-Sayed to win

A new poll indicates that Republican Mike Rogers may have a lead over Democrat Abdul El-Sayed while being tied with Haley Stevens. The news put a damper on the Democratic Party’s most progressive voters in Michigan, as many are afraid that El-Sayed could win the primary but lose the general election.

According to a poll shared by The Hill and conducted by the Glengariff Group, Rogers would beat El-Sayed by a whopping 10 points in November. Should Rogers face Stevens, however, she would lead by one point, with 46% of the vote to the Republican’s 45%.

The poll has a margin of error of 4 points, so Stevens and Rogers are technically tied. The big difference is that while Stevens and Rogers both receive equal support from independents, El-Sayed is far less popular with them.

Michigan Voters React to Recent Polls

When the news hit Reddit’s r/Michigan, many seemingly Democratic voters were disappointed by the results. One of them said: “I’m sure Haley Steven’s attack ads didn’t help this. I thought they were all supposed to be in the same, Democrat, team. I guess not.”

Others were afraid that even Stevens would lose the election: “Stevens funding is going to disappear in the general. Her funding largely comes from the same sources as Rogers, but they prefer him over her.”

Someone else questioned this line of thinking, however: “Why do you guys keep saying this? It’s one of the most important Senate races in the country with millions already pouring in. The Democrat Party will fund her. Most of her donations are small dollar anyways. Once she is the nominee, she will be fine.”

Other residents were outright skeptical of the results: “The pollster has already endorsed Stevens and is extremely unreliable. This is a garbage poll meant to push the bullshit ‘electability’ argument and nothing more. Meanwhile AIPAC would have no reason to continue backing Stevens if she wins the primary, so anyone paying attention knows she’s much less likely to defeat Rogers in the general.”

It remains to be seen who will win the election, as there is still time for all three campaigns to improve their standing before November. Some Democratic voters remain hopeful, though: “We have already rejected Rogers before we will do it again.”
