California Resident Shows Expanding Sinkhole City Has Ignored Despite Alleged Daily Complaints: ‘The Hole Is Now Twice the Size’

Some ‘stranger things’ down there

If given the chance to expand, a sinkhole can swallow entire cars, which is why one local of Redding, California, is very concerned about one that has allegedly gone unnoticed by the city. Going by Appropriate_Sink4525, the resident posted to r/Wellthatsucks and claimed that the local government has ignored it despite two weeks of daily complaints. In the post, he clarifies that this sinkhole isn’t out in some remote area either; it’s on “a main road, which thousands of cars travel on every day,” Appropriate Sink wrote.

This sinkhole my city has ignored reports of for over 2 weeks.

The video shows a hole with a very noticeable opening on the street, and inside, something appears to be corroding, causing it to collapse even further. “Looks like there’s prolly a broken sewer main down there deep eating up the ground,” remarked a commenter. Over the past two weeks, “the hole is now twice the size, and daily complaints have gotten nowhere,” Appropriate Sink alleges.

The Redding Local Claims He’s Sent the Sinkhole Video to California News Outlets

OP and his friends say they’ve done their part, with Appropriate Sink having gone as far as sending the video to multiple local news outlets. One person jokes, “Lure one of the council members there or have them park there and see how fast it fixes.” Based on OP’s response, he doesn’t seem too pleased with the city’s current leadership, saying, “They’re all too busy at their mega church stealing from the old people to afford their aston martins.”

Several Redditors admired the California resident for getting that close to look inside the hole, considering there’s no telling where else the underground has sunk in. “Standing directly over a collapsing sinkhole was definitely a choice,” wrote a commenter. Jokingly, some suggested OP drive over it and intentionally fall in to sue the city for easy money. “If you fall down the hole, I’m sure not only will they rush to fix it, but you might even end up with a hefty lawsuit,” remarked another.

While it doesn’t seem like Appropriate Sink would take on those suggestions, he and many others in his post agree that spreading awareness online is the only way to get the city to fix the hole before it causes serious damage. Since daily reports allegedly weren’t enough, the method is now, as one commenter put it: “Name and Shame! Enough calls from a few Redditors might name them change their mind.”
