A North Carolina woman has caught attention online after posting TikTok videos sharing the story of her brother. After being adopted by white parents, he was allegedly “completely cut off from his tribe by [her] parents.” However, the woman has made it her mission to reconnect him with his tribe and his heritage.

The Shoshone-Paiute Tribes recently responded by posting a press release on their official Facebook page. In the video, the North Carolina woman announces, “We made tribal headlines.” After reaching out to the Tribes and spreading the story online, the news has been made public. The Shoshone-Paiute Tribes labeled the response as an answer to a “viral TikTok inquiry on descendant.” In this, they state that they are aware of multiple viral videos going around “pertaining to the well-being and status of a descendant of the Tribes.”

The Tribes state they are reaching out to the Idaho Department of Health Welfare. As the adoption occurred off the reservation, this is who her brother was in foster care with, and where he was adopted from. She states that this video is also “a thank you to you guys” who helped spread the word.

Several followers messaged the North Carolina woman after seeing the press release. The announcement feels like a huge step forward, as she states, “They told me they were looking into but now they’ve told the entire public.” The video has over 174,000 views and over 24,000 likes within six hours of posting.

Many Give Support To North Carolina Woman

Many are cheering her on and are hopeful that her brother will get to reconnect with his tribe. One commenter states, “His community is waiting for him. Children should not be alienated from their tribes.” Another states, “It’s just so weird and unnecessary to try ripping away this boy’s history.” Meanwhile, others are relieved to know the tribe is looking into the case. One says regarding the press release, “Literally ‘The Tribe has spoken’.”

Others applaud her dedication as a sister, stating, “You’re doing an incredible thing for your brother.” Another states, “Your brother deserves to know who he is and his people. Keep fighting.” Meanwhile, one commenter is happy to see social media being used for a good cause: “This is what I want social media to be. This is amazing. I’m so happy for you all.”

The North Carolina woman plans to keep everyone informed when she knows more. But for now, she is excited to have the Tribes officially looking into her brother’s story and is hopeful for him to reconnect.
