A Pennsylvania mom says a quick trip to the bathroom with her 5-year-old daughter turned into an experience she never expected. When she returned to their table just a few minutes later, everything was gone. Her wallet, car keys, jacket, and even her daughter’s stuffed animals had disappeared.
Kumbah Sarnor shared what happened in a TikTok after visiting Silk City Diner in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, with her daughter. Sarnor explained that they were still dining and had not even paid their bill when her daughter needed to use the restroom.
According to Sarnor, they were only gone for about three minutes. She left several belongings at the table, which would normally be a pretty good indication that someone planned on coming back.
“We come back to the table. Nothing’s on the table. The table is completely empty,” Sarnor said. “Not her stuffed animals. Not my jacket. Not my wallet. Not my car keys.”
Sarnor asked an employee where their things had gone and said she was told they “may have gone in the trash.” Sure enough, the employee began pulling her belongings out of the garbage.
Things only got worse from there.
Sarnor says other customers told her the employee had used her daughter’s stuffed animals to wipe down the table before throwing them away. Sarnor did not personally see that happen, but she was understandably upset by what the other diners told her.
“Why are you wiping down a dirty table with my child’s stuffed animals?” she questioned. “It makes no sense.”
According to Sarnor, the employee also told her to be more conscious of what she leaves behind and explained that much of his job involved throwing things away.
TikTok Users Question How a Wallet and Keys Ended Up in the Trash
People in the TikTok comments didn’t buy that explanation. “The fact that they threw away a wallet and keys instead of placing it in a lost and found is [EXPLETIVE] ridiculous,” one person wrote.
Another commenter pointed out something that made the whole situation even more frustrating. “It took them 20 minutes to hand you water, but three minutes to clear the table.”
Not everyone agreed with Sarnor leaving her wallet and keys behind. Some commenters questioned why anyone would leave valuables sitting unattended at a restaurant in Philadelphia.
Others thought that was missing the point completely. If anything, they argued, a wallet, keys, jacket and children’s toys sitting at the table should have made it pretty obvious that the customers were coming back. “Leaving keys and wallet is saying I didn’t leave I am coming back,” one commenter wrote.
Several people who said they work or have worked in restaurants also joined the conversation. They explained that customers leave belongings behind all the time when they go to the restroom. Even if someone accidentally leaves something after leaving a restaurant, wallets and car keys would normally be turned over to a manager or placed in lost and found, not tossed into the garbage.
Silk City has since responded to the backlash and apologized for what happened. The Pennsylvania restaurant called the incident “unacceptable” and said the employee’s actions did not reflect its standards. The restaurant also confirmed that the employee involved is no longer employed there after reviewing the incident.
Some TikTok users still questioned why Sarnor left her wallet and keys behind, while others said they would no longer visit Silk City after hearing what happened.
Leaving your wallet sitting on a restaurant table in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania might not be the best idea. Still, it is hard to understand how anyone could look at a wallet, car keys, a jacket, and a little girl’s stuffed animals and decide it all belonged in the trash.
