She lost her bearings, you could say

When you take a car to a mechanic, you’d expect the vehicle to be fixed, though one Colorado mother experienced otherwise after her visit to the auto shop. In her post on r/Wellthatsucks, Reddit user Crocheting Potter says her front wheel popped off literally ten minutes after getting her car back from the mechanic. Things seemed fine until she got on the highway, when she realized something was off and pulled off at an exit.

“I watched it bounce and roll into oncoming traffic!” Potter exclaimed, recalling the moment her wheel came loose. “It got really close to hitting a SUV but thank goodness it missed and then rolled into a ditch.” Fortunately, no one was reportedly injured, including her baby who was in the car at the time. “Absolutely terrifying. 0/10 experience,” she wrote.

The Mother Says the Colorado Mechanic Is Doing His Best to Make Things Right

Hundreds of people were quite appalled that something like this could happen, right after a visit to the auto repair shop, no less. The mechanic allegedly sent in a tow truck right away and took full responsibility for what could have been a horrible accident. According to Potter, it was a trainee’s mistake: the lug nuts of the front wheel weren’t secure. “I get it man; everyone makes mistakes,” she wrote empathetically. “But [expletive], that’s a big one.”

“That’s incredibly harrowing. Glad you and everyone else is okay and that they’re owning their mistake,” reacted a Redditor. “Mistakes happen. It’s what they do after the mistake that matters,” wrote a second user. “Did they guarantee the work for life? Time to sue,” remarked a third.

In response to the lawsuit suggestion, Potter defended the shop, saying she wouldn’t sue one of the last family-owned mechanics in her area. Not to mention, she claims she’s been with this Colorado auto shop for years, and the owner has always treated her well. “Overall, I’m mad but mistakes happen, and I know he’ll make it right,” the mom wrote.

In the end, a tragedy was avoided, but the mother and her baby will definitely remember this moment when her front car’s wheel flew off. Although her child might not have completely understood what was going on, she definitely felt the panic. As Potter recalled in a comment, “I was cursing up a storm! My toddler was not impressed lol.”
