Backlash After ICE Agents Allegedly Detain New Jersey Man on His Property Without a Warrant: ‘There Is No Law In America Under Trump’

Just another day, apparently

Newark, New Jersey, has become a point for the debate over immigration enforcement and federal operations after a new video surfaced this week. Footage shows agents confronting a man inside the grounds of a private backyard on a residential street, sparking outcry at the treatment of the individual.

ICE violently detain man—on his private property with no warrant.

Severely injury his knee—force him to limp away to their car on one shoe.

Man was on the front steps of his house—inside a gate he did give agents permission to enter.

The video, presumably captured by a neighbor and uploaded to X by @LongTimeHistory and on Instagram by galletttogoinggreen, has gone viral, with people weighing in on the legality of the arrest.

Agents in tactical gear, some displaying “POLICE” markings on their vests, physically restrain a man in a pink shirt on the ground in what appears to be a backyard next to a set of outdoor stairs, a large grill, and a metal fence.

The man is tackled to the ground by the agents while he has a noticeable injury to his knee. He is handled by agents while kneeling, then brought back up to his feet, where he is cuffed behind his back and led down the sidewalk towards waiting cars, all while a woman’s wails can be heard in the background.

The person who filmed it can also be heard saying: “What the [expletive] is going on? This is [expletive] crazy. I don’t believe this.”

Later, filming the same house at night, the neighbor said: “Poor guy coming home from work, has a family to support. They moved to this country just to survive. And ICE takes them. Now the poor lady is inside, probably scared to death of a knock on the door.”

The caption notes that the man was stopped on the front steps of the private home inside the gated compound with no warrant shown, although the video does not confirm this. It also does not show whether the man was read his rights or what documentation, if any, the agents had to detain him based on current immigration law.

Internet Reacts to New Jersey Backyard Detainment

The clip drew a wave of frustration in the comments, with many framing the encounter as another example of aggressive federal tactics in New Jersey. One commenter wrote, “There is no law in America under Trump, except Trump’s law. So, American people, better get used to more of this as long as Trump is in power.” Another said, “They literally do whatever the [expletive] they want to. This is too much!”

Others focused on the lack of visible process. One commenter argued, “No due process. ICE agents have no rules, no limitations, and likely no training.” A separate commenter tied the moment to a broader pattern, writing, “It’s who we are now, many are ok with treating brown skinned people this way. I guess we were really never any better than this, they were just waiting for someone as evil as them to be free.”

The video comes after months of tensions between federal agents and New Jersey residents, as operations relating to Delaney Hall detention facility continued to stoke the controversy, leading to the involvement of the Newark mayor and U.S. Congress members earlier this year.
