Even though New York law states that bicyclists should act as though they are riding vehicles, not everyone is always as careful as they should be. While doing his morning commute in Oswego County, Reddit user Goonie-Googoo- passed by a biker on the right side of the road. From dashcam footage posted on r/dashcams, the cyclist suddenly swerved out into the street without warning, giving Goonie barely any time to react.
“Didn’t hit the guy, thankfully – but this is about as close as I’ve gotten to actually killing someone,” OP wrote in relief. He clarified that the thumping noise was stuff moving around in the back of his car, not the biker being struck. “If something did happen, it would be 100% his fault,” remarked Goonie.
Of the thousands of Redditors tuning into the super close call of what could have been a deadly accident, many agreed with Goonie: the cyclist was definitely not paying proper attention. “Some people have zero situational awareness,” sighed a user, comparing the biker to people blocking aisles at grocery stores to talk to their friends.
“Handled it like a pro though. Way to keep your cool,” wrote another, praising Goonie for his quick reaction time. “What was he thinking? Better yet. Was he even thinking?” questioned a third.

In the video, OP had some choice words for the cyclist, and for valid reason. “I nearly killed the guy. Not worried about his feelings,” Goonie expressed with little sympathy.
As to how the biker reacted to almost being hit, fortunately, he seems to have understood plenty the danger he was in. “He was basically like, ‘I’m sorry! I’m sorry!’” OP recalled. That said, many Redditors believed the biker needed a ‘firm talking-to.’ “As a cyclist and a driver that was a 100% deserved verbal lashing,” wrote a user.
As to whether Goonie’s insults and strong language were necessary is debatable. Though no one can debate being upset over almost allegedly ending someone’s life,
