An Illinois neighbor is facing furious backlash online after supposedly sneaking into a single mother’s backyard and deflating a swimming pool she had spent days preparing for her children. It’s not clear what her motive was for destroying the pool, but her actions have gone viral after the security camera caught her in the act.
The alleged incident was captured on the single mother’s Wyze camera in her home in Illinois. According to the accounts that shared the video, the mother had spent days leveling the ground and setting up the pool back in June, so her two children could enjoy the summer. The footage reportedly shows a woman walking into the yard at night before approaching the newly installed pool.
After apparently checking whether anyone was watching, the woman is seen puncturing or deflating the pool. A loud pop follows as water spills across the yard, prompting the woman to quickly flee. The alleged motive made the incident even more controversial: The woman was reportedly angry about the noise coming from the children.
The video quickly spread across social media, reportedly garnering millions of views, as viewers debated whether the alleged vandal should face criminal charges and be required to compensate the family. “She should have to pay for a new pool, setup and water,” an X user wrote, adding that she should also face consequences for alleged trespassing and criminal damage.
More online backlash for the Karen
Another user suggested taking the dispute to an extreme, writing that a lawsuit should be large enough to afford the family an in-ground pool so they could “invite All the neighborhood kids over.” Others were far less restrained. “Anyone who is offended by the sound of happy children is sick,” according to a commenter.
The reaction extended to Instagram, where commenters expressed similar outrage. One person wrote, “People like this [expletive] is exactly what is wrong with America right now,” contrasting the alleged behavior with an older idea of neighborliness, when hearing children playing in the pool might have been an invitation to introduce yourself rather than start a feud.
Another commenter said, “She needs to pay the water bill too because wtf,” while another joked that the children might wake up expecting pool day only to discover that “the grinch came early this year.” It’s not clear whether the police were contacted or how involved the authorities were on the matter.
