A California man was recorded holding up an insulting sign containing a slur toward a group of people at Kellogg Park in Oxnard. The incident went viral, with viewers questioning why anyone would be angry about people giving away food.

The video was shared by TikTok user Mox, who goes by @moxycodone. It received more than one million views, with many viewers expressing outrage over the man’s behavior.

The short video shows a woman confronting the man and pointing out that the group was simply giving away free food. The group’s stand also displayed LGBTQ+ and Palestinian flags, which appeared to be part of the reason for the man’s objection. The man did not respond to the woman and instead continued silently holding his sign while people walked past him.

The sign accused the group of being “communist” and included a homophobic slur. The use of the word “communist” became a major part of the discussion online, with many commenters arguing that giving away free food does not automatically make an organization communist.

It was also unclear from the video exactly what the California man objected to. While the free food appeared to be the main focus of the woman’s response, the presence of LGBTQ+ and Palestinian flags may also have contributed to his reaction. The video does not establish the man’s exact views or why he chose to confront the group.

Internet Reacts to California Man’s Offensive Sign

The reaction was overwhelmingly critical and mocking. Many viewers questioned why the man would be upset about people helping others, while others joked that his sign was actually giving the food stand free advertising. Some said the sign made them more interested in visiting the group and supporting its efforts.

The discussion also turned into a debate over politics and government assistance. One commenter wrote, “They cry about communism and socialism, but when food stamps, Medicare, and police departments get cut, they are the first ones at the food bank and complaining about a lack of government services.”

Others pointed out that charity and free food are not unique to any political ideology. Some compared the group’s actions to religious teachings about helping people in need. “Didn’t Jesus feed His people for free?” another user asked.

The comments also became political, with some viewers connecting the California man to conservative or MAGA views and criticizing him for objecting to the group. Others pushed back, saying people should not assume someone’s political affiliation based on a short video.

A smaller group defended the man or argued that viewers were making too much of the incident. Some also questioned whether the group’s activities should automatically be labeled communist or political simply because it was giving away food.

In the end, the California man may have intended to discourage people from visiting the stand. Online viewers seemed to think his sign did the exact opposite.
