A recent scandal linked a company owned by Republican Georgia gubernatorial candidate Rick Jackson to the exploitation of services provided by immigrants. The case enraged some Georgians, who criticized Jackson for campaigning against illegal immigration while allegedly exploiting immigrants for profit.

As reported by CNN, Jackson’s Avant Healthcare Professionals was recently accused of using the labor of foreign-born nurses “only to pay them substandard wages and trap them in rigid contracts for years.”

In a recent lawsuit, former employees accused the company of threatening to call immigration services to have them deported and charging them five-figure fees if they wanted to leave their positions, essentially leaving them in “indentured servitude.” The company initially denied that it had done anything wrong, but later settled the case for $3 million, paying 5,000 employees.

Georgia locals were angry to discover that the GOP candidate had not only campaigned against illegal immigration but had also allegedly exploited foreign workers at his own business. Many complained about this on r/Georgia: “He seems to hate immigrants while his companies heavily rely on foreign workers.”

Others continued to criticize the entrepreneur: “What a shocker, ANOTHER MAGA not telling the truth.” Someone else added: “That’s just the cost of doing business. Dude is a billionaire for a reason, and it isn’t because he’s a benevolent guy.”

This led some folks to complain about how contradictory the whole situation was: “I look forward to all of the principled conservatives who haven’t shut up about immigration for a decade withholding their vote for Jackson in protest of this. I mean, if immigration is such a dangerous and imminent threat.”

Another seemingly baffled user wrote: “Imagine if Republican voters had the same anger and scorn for the rich white Republicans breaking immigration laws as they do the dirt-poor migrants who they think should be deported for breaking immigration law. Right-wing media has done a hell of a job.”

The allegations have added fresh scrutiny to Jackson’s campaign, with many online continuing to debate both the claims themselves and what they could mean for his bid to become Georgia’s next governor.
