Outrage erupted online after a Florida woman who allegedly converted to Islam appeared to try to make her five-year-old daughter start wearing a hijab.
In a post shared online, a picture showed the woman’s daughter wearing a red hijab. The little girl appeared to be unfamiliar with how to wear it, as the hijab also covered part of her mouth. The post also included a video the mother filmed of her daughter kneeling on a prayer mat.
In the video, the Quran could be heard playing in the background as the woman filmed her daughter kneeling on the prayer mat. She said they had been having a difficult time getting the little girl to pray. The woman then explained that her daughter was initially excited to pray but later began crying whenever her mother tried to get her to do so, a detail that prompted significant backlash online.
The woman said she had asked an imam for advice, and he reportedly told her to let her daughter watch and observe what others were doing. This appeared to mean allowing the little girl to watch others pray. The woman added that her daughter had started taking out her prayer mat on her own. She acknowledged that the child was not necessarily praying correctly but said she was happy that her daughter was making an effort.
The Florida mother’s decision to introduce her five-year-old daughter to practices such as wearing the hijab and praying could naturally become a topic of debate online, particularly because of the child’s young age. While some people may view these practices as part of raising a child within their family’s faith, others may question whether young children are old enough to understand or choose religious clothing and practices for themselves.
These differing views can lead to heated discussions, with some people defending parents’ ability to raise their children according to their beliefs while others argue that children should have more autonomy as they grow older.
Viewers Outraged After Florida Woman Makes Her Daughter Wear a Hijab
The video sparked reactions online. Many viewers criticized the Florida woman after seeing her try to introduce her daughter to praying and wearing a hijab. “Call CPS and save the child. Let mom reap what she sewed,” one person wrote. Another commenter made broader claims about Islam and child abuse, saying, “This is the newest form of ritualistic child abuse perpetrated by liberal white women. They’ve moved on from genital mutilation, clearly that doesn’t get the shock value and attention they want. These people should be nowhere near children.”
More people expressed outrage over the woman’s approach to teaching her daughter about prayer. “Forcing a 5-year-old to cry through prayer every day isn’t ‘faith.’ It’s emotional coercion dressed up as religion. A child that age doesn’t consent. If this was any other belief system people would be screaming ‘abuse.’ Protect kids first,” one person wrote. Another commenter said, “What a jerk. She’s obviously proud of her bad parenting skills.”
The video sparked a broader conversation about whether parents should raise their children according to their own religious beliefs and practices. It also led to discussion about whether very young children may be too young to fully understand or participate in certain religious practices, with differing opinions over how much autonomy children should have as they grow older.
