Fans online are dragging California rapper Doja Cat after she admitted that she did not know who country singer Ella Langley was.
The backlash started after Doja Cat appeared on Sundae Conversation. Host Caleb Pressley was following up on a joke he had made when he asked the rapper about Ella Langley. “Did you think I was talking about Ella Langley?” he asked her.
Pressley followed up by asking the musician, “Do you like Ella Langley?” In response, Doja said, “I don’t know what that is.” Fans believed the comment was dismissive, particularly because Doja referred to Langley as “what” rather than saying, “I don’t know who that is.” Doja then repeated the singer’s name, saying, “Ella Langley? Ella Langley.” Some fans interpreted her response as shade and believed she was pretending not to know who Langley was.
Doja’s claim that she did not know the singer was also questioned by fans because of Langley’s major success in recent months. Ella Langley has reached a major milestone with “Choosin’ Texas,” which has become one of the biggest country hits of 2026. The song has spent 19 weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100, tying the record for the longest reign atop the chart by a non-holiday song.
The achievement has further cemented Langley’s status as one of country music’s biggest breakout stars, with “Choosin’ Texas” reaching audiences beyond the genre and dominating the charts for months. For this reason, some fans found Doja’s claim that she did not know Langley particularly surprising.
Fans Slam California Rapper Doja Cat Over Ella Langley Statement
Fans quickly criticized California rapper Doja Cat after she said that she did not know who country singer Ella Langley was. Many believed she was pretending not to know Langley rather than being sincere. “She really tries to be cocky every time. Like it smells jealousy,” one person wrote. Another commenter responded, “I don’t know what a Doja Cat is and don’t care.”
More people criticized the musician, with one person saying, “Shading Ella is so weird. She’s so [expletive] talented unlike…” Others came to Doja’s defense and agreed with her. “End that unknown fraud artist,” another person said in support of Doja. This prompted someone else to argue, “Unknown artist that has one of the biggest singles of all time, a very successful album out, just wrapped up a sold out stadium tour, and is on the second sold out leg of her arena tour stay mad.”
The video of Doja Cat sparked a broader conversation about how celebrities claiming not to know other public figures can lead to backlash from their respective fan bases. It also led to discussion about how fans may question the authenticity of statements made by celebrities, potentially resulting in further criticism and online disputes.
