Everyone makes mistakes behind the wheel, but some are far more expensive than others. A driver recently went viral after appearing to pour diesel straight into a Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF) tank at a gas station, prompting many online viewers to warn that the mix-up could cause serious damage and result in a hefty repair bill.
This short but shocking video quickly went viral on Reddit, where someone recorded a woman at a gas station who was apparently putting diesel into her vehicle. Unfortunately, things didn’t go as planned, or as they should, as the woman is clearly putting the diesel inside the wrong tank.
Now, for the unaware, SUVs like this one have a DEF (Diesel Exhaust Fluid) tank. Despite that having the “diesel” word in it, that doesn’t mean this fluid goes there. Actually, putting diesel there could cause a lot of damage to the vehicle.
While it is normal for people to not know what to do with their new ride, people quickly noted that the actual diesel tank was not far from the DEF one. You can actually see how it is literally next to it, in a noticeable green color, which is the same color as the nozzle the woman is holding.
With all the details in the video, it was just a matter of time for people to join in a collective facepalm, and, according to some, with good reason.
Internet Reacts to Driver’s Costly DEF Tank Mistake
Another thing many Redditors pointed out was that the lady might have caused a great deal of damage to her vehicle, and one that won’t be cheap to fix.
“That’s a $15K bill right there.”
“Yes, they’re different sizes, but this isn’t a gas tank; it’s the diesel exhaust fluid tank on her diesel vehicle…either way, it’s a mistake that will cost at least 10k.“
Others, however, threw a few not-so-friendly remarks toward the lady, saying that if she had the money to purchase a vehicle like this, she should have known how to use it.
“Because they can afford a Duramax Yukon but don’t have the brain required for maintenance. Sometimes… Sometimes you need to let them touch the stove to learn that it is hot.“
Lastly, some people thought the one recording should have gotten out and helped the woman. But, as many also point out, people need to learn from their mistakes.
