More than a decade after The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt took away everyone’s free time, CD Projekt RED is dragging the White Wolf back for one last hunt. While we’ve all heard about its upcoming surprise DLC expansion, somehow, that’s not the only thing the studio has in store. During Gamescom Live 2026, CDPR showcased a teaser trailer for Songs of the Past DLC, complete with the announcement of free The Witcher 3 remaster and DLCs.
Songs of the Past is being co-developed by CDPR and Fool’s Theory, the studio reportedly working on a remake of The Witcher. The DLC launches in 2027 for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch 2, with wishlisting now available. Level Design Lead Miles Tost confirmed that Songs of the Past will be Geralt’s final adventure before the series passes the torch to Ciri.
His last journey takes him to Letten, a new region described as almost ‘uncannily idyllic.’ As this place attracts a Witcher, naturally, there’s a dark secret hiding beneath all that picturesque scenery.
The footage showed him battling never-before-seen ‘long-dormant evils,’ including some particularly nasty plant creatures. Geralt also has new tricks up his sleeve, using chains to pull enemies toward him during combat. After 11 years of hunting, maybe walking over and stabbing them himself has become too much effort.
But as mentioned above, CDPR brought other surprises to the Gamescom table. Before we get a taste of Letten, we can return to Kaer Morhen through new lenses in The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt – Remastered. This new version promises dozens of upgrades, including upgraded visuals and Signs effects, improved monster behavior, new finishers, and, perhaps most importantly for fashionistas, a transmog system.
The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt – Remastered launches this September 29, 2026, as a free upgrade for existing owners of the original version. On top of that, Tost confirmed that Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine DLCs are now free for anyone who owns the base game as well.
Last but not least, CDPR has also partnered with Blizzard, adding The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt – Remastered and Songs of the Past to Battle.net. Those who bought the expansion via Blizzard’s launcher will unlock a special ‘Geralt-inspired skin’ in Diablo 4.
CDPR has certainly found one heck of a way to send Geralt off before Ciri takes over in The Witcher 4. With a remaster, free expansions, and one last adventure, White Wolf’s retirement can wait until next year.
