As Florida’s gubernatorial race continues to heat up, Republican candidate Byron Donalds has come under heavy criticism for comments he recently made about his Democratic rival, David Jolly. Florida residents and a progressive media outlet accused Donalds of blaming Trump’s failures on the Obama administration and complained about his perceived lack of accountability.
In a recent interview with Fox Business Network (via Crooks and Liars), Byron Donalds claimed that he had “never seen Democrat policy actually make things better,” saying that healthcare costs are on the rise due to the Obama administration’s policies, such as Obamacare. He also accused the Joe Biden administration of creating “the largest inflation this country has ever seen in 50 years” while criticizing Jolly.
The progressive outlet that commented on the interview then accused Byron Donalds of blaming Democrats for the mistakes of Trump, claiming that the current administration was unable to come up with a “viable healthcare plan” and saying that Trump mismanaged the health crisis during the pandemic.
Floridians Are Not Happy With Byron Donalds
The article criticizing Donalds sparked some fierce backlash against the Republican on Reddit’s r/Florida. One user said: “All of our policies and outcomes suck. Let’s blame democrats!” Someone else called Donalds “a craven opportunist who wants to follow Trump’s path to self-enrichment by taking advantage of [expletive].”
Another Floridian said: “I’m so sick of hearing the same old tired rhetoric from guys like this. Unfortunately, I fear the worst, which is we’re gonna end up replacing one clown with another. Because people in the state of Florida are just plain stupid.”
Others were afraid of what would become of Florida if Donalds were actually elected: “Dude will do all of this [expletive] until the election and still win my 10 points.” This led some seemingly Democratic voters to express their wishes for a change in Florida: “Please vote for David Jolly so we don’t have to deal with this bozo for 4 or 8 years.”
With the election coming up in November, Byron Donalds is the clear favorite to succeed Ron DeSantis, but only time will tell who will become the next governor.
