A TikTok user has shared footage they say shows a woman being confronted over an alleged shoplifting incident inside a Nevada store. But rather than focusing on the woman, many viewers were left talking about the manager’s response after they said there was “nothing we can do.”
The video comes from TikTok user @julieg_jewelrybox, whose name is Julie Garman and who regularly shares snippets of her everyday life on the platform. The footage is accompanied by on-screen text claiming, “The cashier was trying to stop her from stealing… wait for manager’s response at the end.”
In the clip, a blonde woman wearing a purple Rolling Stones T-shirt is confronted by a store employee over the sheets in her shopping cart. During the exchange, the woman holds up a purse and says, “I just got it from Walmart. It is not sold here, ma’am. So, here’s my receipt for it. I just bought it.”
As the conversation continues, it becomes clear the employee believes the woman may have taken the sheets in her shopping cart rather than the purse she had just produced a receipt for.
As Julie continues filming, the woman walks out of the store, prompting her to quietly remark, “I’m pretty sure she just stole that.” Moments later, the manager approaches the employee, and a brief conversation follows. While parts of the exchange are difficult to hear, the employee can be heard saying, “And I stopped her. I think she had sheets—” before the manager replies, “If they steal, just let them steal. We can’t stop them or we get fired.”

The manager’s response resonated with many TikTok users, several of whom said it reflected the reality of working in retail rather than a lack of concern about alleged shoplifting. One person wrote, “He’s right 100%,” while another added, “So many companies have this policy now. They would rather lose merchandise than have an employee injured trying to protect the merchandise.”
Others echoed the same point, arguing that retail workers should not be expected to physically confront suspected shoplifters. One commenter wrote, “he’s right though she’s not security she cannot intervene if someone is taking something it is dangerous,” while another added, “as employees they can not physically stop people from stealing… its dangerous for an employee to try to retrieve stolen stuff, just get the plate number and call the police.”
A self-described retail worker also weighed in, explaining why many employees choose not to intervene. They wrote, “I work retail. #1 do they really pay you enough to risk your life. #2 company does not care if they get stolen from they can write it off. #3 they will fire you… #4 customers are always right. until this mind set changes let them walk out.”
Whether the woman ultimately left the Carson City store with unpaid merchandise remains unclear from the footage. However, the manager’s comments sparked a wider conversation about the policies many retailers have in place and the difficult position employees can find themselves in when confronting suspected shoplifters.
