Outrage erupted online after a group of anti-abortion women protested outside Olivia Rodrigo’s California festival over the singer’s support for Planned Parenthood.

Olivia Rodrigo’s Daisy Chain Fields festival was created as a women-centered music and charity event aimed at supporting causes affecting women and girls. Inspired by the 1990s Lilith Fair, the festival featured an all-women lineup, with proceeds going toward nonprofit organizations working on issues including reproductive health, women’s legal rights, workplace protections, gender-based violence, education and Black maternal health. The event raised $10 million for 10 nonprofit partners, while an additional $10 million was matched by Melinda French Gates, bringing the total amount raised to $20 million.

Rodrigo is a known supporter of Planned Parenthood and abortion rights. The group of women who protested outside the festival carried signs opposing abortion while also referencing some of the singer’s songs. “Isn’t it sour that 1/3 of Gen Z is missing because of abortion?” one sign read. Another sign held by a different woman said, “Every baby deserves to get their driver license one day. End abortion.”

More women held signs opposing abortion and criticizing Rodrigo’s support for Planned Parenthood. “Abortions aren’t good 4 u. Female empowerment never looks like dead babies,” one sign read. A fourth sign stated, “More than half of abortions are committed on minority babies. Their lives matter. Stop funding this.” The final sign shown in pictures shared online accused the singer of helping “kill off” her future fan base through her support for Planned Parenthood. It is not clear whether additional signs were displayed or how long the women protested outside the festival.

Olivia Rodrigo’s Continuous Support

The protest came amid Rodrigo’s outspoken support for reproductive rights and abortion access, including her support for Planned Parenthood. In 2023, she launched her Fund 4 Good initiative to support organizations working on reproductive health, girls’ education, and preventing gender-based violence.

During her GUTS World Tour, she also partnered with the National Network of Abortion Funds to help people facing barriers to reproductive care. Rodrigo has publicly criticized abortion restrictions and spoken in support of Planned Parenthood, which was among the organizations benefiting from her Daisy Chain Fields festival. In 2025, Planned Parenthood recognized Rodrigo with its Catalyst of Change Award for her advocacy.

It is also worth noting that Planned Parenthood’s work extends beyond abortion, as the organization provides a broad range of sexual and reproductive health services. These include birth control, emergency contraception, STI and HIV testing and treatment, pregnancy testing, prenatal and postpartum care, cancer screenings, preventive health services, and sexual health education.

Fans Slam Anti-Abortion Group Outside of California Festival

After pictures of the anti-abortion group protesting outside the California festival were shared online, many fans criticized the protesters while expressing support for Olivia Rodrigo. “Just 4-5 idiots, it’s better to ignore them with their nonsense arguments,” one person wrote. Another person said, “Female empowerment shouldn’t look like dead babies admittedly made me involuntarily snort at how stupid it was.”

Others continued criticizing the women while also pointing out that Planned Parenthood provides services beyond abortion. “Why do they always try and create the narrative that all Planned Parenthood does is abortions? It’s so insulting and hurts people in an era when healthcare is ridiculously expensive,” one person wrote. Another person shared a screenshot showing that they had donated $20 to Planned Parenthood after seeing the protesters. “Not much, but dedicated to these fine women. May they receive proper healthcare should they ever need it,” they wrote.

The pictures of the women protesting against abortion outside Olivia Rodrigo’s festival sparked a conversation about the causes supported by the event and the nonprofit organizations that benefited from it. It also prompted debate over whether abortion should be viewed as a form of healthcare, with people expressing differing opinions about reproductive rights and abortion access.
