This manner of wage theft is exhausting

The end of a workday turned into a standoff between a Texas car dealer and the Hispanic workers he had allegedly hired. He was accused of refusing to pay them, seized their keys, blocked the way, and threatened to call ICE on them. A video recorded by one of the workers was posted on TikTok, explaining the situation in Spanish. The clip showed three cars, including a police patrol car with the dealer’s logo in place of a license plate, blocking the exit from the property. An English-dubbed version of the TikTok video was posted on X.

Car dealer calls ICE on workers after they finish the job—so he won't have to pay them.

Then block their cars so they can't leave.

"He just told me he called ICE because he didn't want to pay us," man says.

Frustrated by the incident unfolding, the Hispanic worker lamented that he might have gotten into the worst trouble of his life. He alleged that the car dealer had threatened to call ICE because he did not want to pay them. The worker stated that the dealership owner had initially asked them to leave his property, but then suddenly prevented them from doing so, blocking their vehicles in.

A man, whom the worker identified as the dealer, exited the building on the property, walked toward one of the cars blocking the way, and drove off. The person behind the camera stated that he was certain that the dealer was not even from the States.

The Hispanic worker recounted that they had been working all day, and it was not until they were done that the dealer started to act out.

Outrage Over Exploitation and Intimidation

Indignation spread across the internet as many users called out the rise in exploitation of labor, political hypocrisy, and cunning tactics to avoid paying workers.

A frustrated user condemned the practice, writing, “This is such a HORRIBLE TREND that has been taking place for the last year and a half where People are getting work done, then calling ICE on them so they don’t have to PAY is WICKED ASF!! That’s [expletive] up!” Highlighting the irony and hypocrisy, another observed that individuals who often claim that immigrants are freeloaders were simply projecting their own parasitic nature.

Mocking people like that, a commenter wrote, “This is why people laugh when they somehow try to claim some moral superiority. They’d do this more if it was legal.” Another user reacted to the exploitation of laborers, hoping that those who partake in such acts would eventually face karma. A user blamed political leadership for fostering the division while another expressed disappointment in fellow citizens whose behavior harmed the nation’s reputation. Bringing a different point of view, an individual called for severe legal accountability, arguing that employers who intentionally hire the supposed illegal workers should be prosecuted and the owner of the establishment should face serious criminal charges for kidnapping.

The overall public reaction highlights a widespread condemnation of weaponizing authorities like ICE as a tool for wage theft and labor abuse.
