A California ICE agent was filmed as protesters cornered him inside a shop while he attempted to conceal his face.

The incident reportedly took place at the Pep Boys auto shop in Rialto, California. Protesters inside the store noticed ICE agents entering the business and began confronting them.

One of the protesters filmed an ICE agent standing in a corner with his back turned toward them. He appeared to be trying to keep his face away from the camera as the protester told him to leave with his “buddies.” The video also showed several other ICE agents inside the store.

The protester then confronted another agent and asked if he worked for ICE before warning others in the store that he was an agent. She later returned to the first ICE agent, who quickly turned away again when he noticed her approaching, appearing to avoid having his face captured on camera. “ICE agents here hiding,” she said.

“Go ahead. Follow your buddy or you too scared?” she asked the agent who was still keeping his back turned. She continued criticizing him for appearing afraid to show his face. “You won’t be boldfaced in here, but you can go terrorize communities? You can go scare people and rip families apart but you can’t show your [expletive] face?” she said.

As the woman continued yelling at the agent, he kept his back turned toward her, apparently trying to prevent her from filming his face. “Go out please. We don’t need you here,” she told him as he remained in the corner and refused to move. The video ended with pictures showing the faces of the other agents. It is unclear whether the agent who was hiding his face eventually left the store.

Supporters of concealing an agent’s identity may argue that it can help protect them from harassment, threats, or unwanted attention outside of work. Critics, however, may see the behavior as an effort to avoid public scrutiny, especially when agents are performing highly visible duties. The agent’s decision to keep hiding his face also became a point of ridicule in the confrontation and online.

Viewers Slam California ICE Agent for Hiding His Face

The video sparked reactions online. Many viewers criticized and mocked the California ICE agent for repeatedly hiding his face during the confrontation. Some described the behavior as cowardly. “I thought they were all big tough guys?. I hope they never know another day of peace again,” one person wrote. Another person said, “Cowards, every last one of them.”

More viewers continued criticizing the agent for keeping his face hidden. Some used harsh language to condemn what they viewed as an attempt to avoid being identified. “They’re fine swinging their [expletive] around while kidnapping people, putting them in prison camps and when they’re murdering innocent people for no reason, but too scared to show their true faces out of uniform? How [expletive] convinent. [Expletive] [expletive].” Another person said, “They’re all cowards, at least the recent hires.”

The confrontation also drew attention to the irony some viewers saw in an ICE agent attempting to hide his face while carrying out a highly visible public role. At the same time, the footage raised questions about whether protesters should be allowed to publicly identify or expose the faces of agents who are filmed during confrontations.
