A man in Tennessee went viral after surveillance footage appeared to show him reaching into a restaurant’s pizza oven and taking his order himself, leaving viewers wondering what prompted the unusual move.
The incident reportedly took place at Slim and Husky’s Pizza, a restaurant in Nashville. The restaurant shared a video on their Instagram account that included surveillance footage of the man and asked viewers, “Who Unc is This?”
In the video, the man stood at the counter alongside another customer while no employee was visible behind it. A running pizza oven was positioned next to the counter, with what appeared to be the man’s order still inside.
The man then reached into the oven and picked up the small tray holding the pizza. He appeared to quickly let go after placing it on the counter, seemingly reacting to the heat. He then appeared to clench his hand into a fist, which some viewers interpreted as a sign that he had hurt or burned his hand.
After taking the pizza from the oven, the man wrapped it in a napkin and walked away. Some people online alleged that he did not want to wait for his pizza or pay for it, which was why he took it himself. However, it has not been confirmed whether he had already paid for the pizza, as the restaurant did not mention whether payment had been made beforehand.
Whatever prompted him to grab the pizza himself, reaching barehanded into a commercial pizza oven carried an obvious risk of burns, something his immediate reaction may have demonstrated.
Viewers Shocked After Tennessee Man Grabs Pizza From Hot Oven
The video sparked plenty of reactions online. Many viewers were shocked by the sight of the Tennessee man reaching into the running oven to grab the pizza, with some believing he may have burned his hand in the process. “I think he burned the eff out of his right hand but was too high, or in shock, to know it at the time. I’d check local emergency rooms for a possible visit,” one person wrote.
Many viewers joked about the Tennessee man deciding to grab the pizza himself rather than leaving it to an employee. “Next level self serve,” one person wrote. Another simply commented, “Oops,” while someone else joked, “He was so desperate for that great ‘real’ food that they serve…”
Others could relate to the frustration of waiting longer than expected for food. One viewer shared their own experience, writing, “The staff at some pizza joints are EXPLETIVE, I once waited 40 minutes for my grinder, which was sitting just out of sight.”
It remains unclear why the man decided to take the pizza from the oven himself or whether he had already paid for his order. However, judging by how quickly he let go of the tray, his attempt at “next level self serve” may have come with an unexpectedly painful price.
