Ramaswamy Faces Fury Over Foreign-Paid Political Video Report, Liberals Say: ‘A Vote for Vivek Is a Vote Against Ohio’

Foreign clicks, local trust problem

An overseas operation paying people to push favorable videos about Vivek Ramaswamy has landed with a thud among some of his fiercest critics in Ohio, with liberal-leaning commenters accusing the Republican gubernatorial nominee of giving voters yet another reason not to trust him.

The Atlantic reported that a Latvia-based political “clipping” operation called Elephant Clipping offered additional compensation for favorable Ramaswamy content. Participants in the broader network were also instructed to use U.S.-based proxy servers, helping conceal that some posts originated outside the country.

Crucially, the investigation did not establish that Ramaswamy or his campaign funded the operation. The source of money behind the Ramaswamy-specific campaigns remains unknown, while his campaign did not respond to questions from TiffinOhio.net about whether it had coordinated with or knew who financed the effort.

That distinction did little to calm the reaction in an r/Ohio discussion, where critics already deeply suspicious of Ramaswamy treated the report less like a shock than another entry on a growing political charge sheet.

One commenter summed up the mood simply: “And not one person who is paying attention is at all surprised.”

Another wrote: “Cheaters AND liars.”

Ohio critics see a trust problem getting even worse

The most damaging part of the story politically may be the contrast between paid promotion and the image Ramaswamy’s campaign has attempted to build.

His campaign has previously celebrated what it called “overwhelming grassroots and donor enthusiasm” and described its operation as “driven by grassroots energy.” The revelation that somebody, even if currently unidentified, is separately paying for favorable Ramaswamy clips makes that grassroots message considerably messier.

Reddit critics seized on exactly that contradiction.

“Bro can’t even offer these jobs to Ohioans,” one commenter joked.

Another was considerably more direct: “A vote for Vivek is a vote against Ohio. Simple as that.”

Others framed the report as evidence supporting distrust they already held. One commenter wrote, “This is what you do when you don’t have friends and can’t make friends. You buy them.” Another responded to the news with: “I’m shocked. Shocked! Well, not that shocked.”

None of those reactions establish wrongdoing by Ramaswamy himself. They do, however, illustrate the political problem the report creates among voters already hostile to his candidacy.

The unanswered question is who paid for the favorable videos. Until somebody supplies that answer, every supposedly spontaneous pro-Ramaswamy clip risks carrying an uncomfortable second question for suspicious Ohio voters: is this enthusiasm real, or did somebody buy it?
